London NYC, The - British expats and Anglophiles find a home away from home at this sleek, modern David Collins-designed space that blends classic British style with chic Manhattan flair. Guests dine on Michelin Chef Gordon Ramsay's small plates while seated in patchwork leather banquettes in shades of blue and green. This isn't your typical hotel lobby bar, and the scene is far from expected—an upwardly mobile crowd dressed to the nines replaces stereotypical out-of-towners fascinated by their midtown surroundings. A dapper wait staff dons tuxedos (minus the jackets) while manning the white marble bar, serving up its signature drink, The London (made with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, Bombay Sapphire gin and Lillet, finished with Cremant de Loire). The extensive drink selection includes 11 whites, 10 reds, an array of whiskeys and single malts, fine champagnes, Port, Madeira, Cognac, Armagnac, Calvados, Grappa and Aperitifs alongside 7 imported beers (among them Castelain, Kronenbourg, and Chimay Red). The menu is rounded out by cocktails with an English slant, such as the Pimm Pomm—Pimms No. 1 served with pomegranate cordial and fresh seasonal fruit. Brilliant!
