Eastern Bloc - Created in the image of Wunderbar (which formerly occupied the same space) Eastern Bloc provides hip, thirsty gays a dive-y alternative to some of the East Village’s glitzier bars. Usually drawing a sizable late-night crowd to this dark, claustrophobic, nearly windowless, Soviet-themed space, Eastern Bloc is a bit pricey but makes for a good time. Removing your underwear and stapling it to the ceiling gets you a free drink. Depending on the night of the week, live DJs and at least one go-go boy are found vying for attention over the stylish, but surprisingly not very cruise-y, crowd and lines for the restroom, more often than not, are atrociously long.
