It's All Fair Game: Best Halloween Costumes 2011

October is finally here, which means that it’s nearly time for the biggest excuse to get really drunk, pretend you are a 10-year-old, and do or say anything you want as long as you are in costume. No, I’m not talking about that creepy hooded orgy scene from Eyes Wide Shut. We're talking about Halloween! Whether you’re impersonating a naughty witch, or the walking dead, Halloween is a great time to threaten people with dairy products, and step outside of yourself to be whoever you want. Costumes are key, and honing in on the inspirations of 2011 might be your best bet to make the most memorable impression of your life at a party or in a night spot this year. We submit to you the 5 most inspirational costumes of 2011.

Driver
Not everyone has or will necessarily see the film, “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling as a part-time stunt driver, part-time get away driver, full-time badass.  But for those who do make it out to the cinema to see this modern day fairy tale, you will know that the nameless man of few words deserves recognition via imitation. What makes this costume so appealing is the fact that all you really need to do is throw on some black denim jeans, comb your hair, nom on a toothpick, and of course wear a white bomber jacket with a giant scorpion on the back. This is one of those situations where those who will get it, will get it right off the bat, and the response is bound to be explosive. We can already tell this is going to be a popular one for Halloween in Los Angeles.

Thor
Not since the 80s movie “Adventures in Babysitting” has the Marvel comic action hero “Thor” had such a good year in the mainstream. Are you large? Blonde? Viking-ish? Wish you were? Well, for those who aren’t quite…viking enough to naturally come off as the reincarnation of a Norse God from outer space, feel free to stop worrying now. This costume comes with metallic abs and a giant freaking hammer. Even Jason Alexander could look fierce in this get up.

Harry Potter
Speaking of ferocity and costumes, let us not forget that the staple costume of the decade has finally found its ending. The boy who lived has finally grown up and moved on from Hogwarts to “snogging” that ginger kid’s little sister like there’s no tomorrow. Meanwhile, barely legal Hermoine Grainger is playing “find the weasel(y)” with Ron in the back of that flying car. No matter whom you choose to recreate, the cast of Harry Potter will surely have a grand send off this year, as the series has finally ended. Whether you choose to go the traditional robed version of the “sexy wizard” spinoffs that you can find anywhere, might as well pull out that wand for one more go around, before it’s retired forever into the annuls of a short attention span.

Casey Anthony
For those of you who want to embody one of the greatest sensationalized human beings of the last couple of years, we present to you one of the easiest ways to make up a Halloween costume: be a lying, morally defunct, slutty bitch. The way I see it, the Casey Anthony costume has a few different offensiveness levels that you can strut: Ranging from “Murder Trial Casey (wearing a white button down blouse, pulling your hair back into a pony tail and having a generally disaffected look on your face), all the way to “Crossing the Line Casey” (Carrying a cabbage patch baby doll with duct tape over her mouth and a backpack), this one is certain to at least bring you a lot of attention. (Too soon?)

Zombie Michael Jackson
Speaking of too soon, a throwback/comeback Halloween favorite since the 1980s has been none other than the imitation of the King of Pop; Michael Jackson. In years past, throwing on the white glove, shining your shoes, inhaling a bit of helium and learning your best moon walk was all you needed to do to pass as our dearly departed MJ.  As the King of Pop, Michael Jackson played a zombie in the epic music video “Thriller.” Well, as the world becomes more and more obsessed with the undead, why not mix the two? Zombie Michael Jackson loves to eat the brains of children. During Halloween, New Yorkers love to comb the streets in this getup. Throw that old MJ costume on, buy a zombie makeup kit from Wal-Mart and combine them to create the most tongue in cheek costume in all of the land.

5 Other Ideas for Halloween Greatness:

Zombie Bin Laden: The U.S. finally killed the most wanted man in the world AND NOW HE IS BACK FOR THE BRAINS OF THE INFIDELS.

Lady Gaga/Jo Calderone: From the queen of misdirection and outlandishness comes the most… subtle, normal, and typical outfit possible… if your name is Andrew Dice Clay.

Pippa Middleton: HEY LADIES! Got a great bedonkedonk, and thrift store form fitting white dress? Can you fake a British accent? Pippa’s posterior is famous and should be celebrated.

Katy Perry: Got latex? Cupcake bra? What about a stuffed Elmo? Zooey Deschanell’s evil twin has just the assets to get you the attention you need.

The Human Centipede: All you need is three friends, a couple rags and absolutely no shame.
