Aside from its nightlife draw, The Vagabond in Miami is known for its beautiful mural -- “Transcendental Vagabonds” which was completed back in 2008 by Gerry Stecca. Sadly, the mural, which featured the faces of Bob Dylan, Jack Kerouac, and Henry David Thoreau in a timeless, multicolored fashion was desecrated by spraypainters during Art Basel on the night of December 2nd. Outside security cameras caught a pair of taggers, both allegedly members of New York’s IRAK tagging crew, as they scribbled FUCK BASEL over the beautiful work of art.
Tonight, Gerry Stecca will once again share his inspiration with the NE Miami Court wall of Club Vagabond by repainting the mural.
"Rarely do you have someone vandalizing what is art," Stecca said, after announcing that he would return to that corner to personally restore his original vision. "And, it wasn't even creative," Stecca added.
The local community of graffiti artists in Miami have been supportive Stecca said, all attempting to add their resources together in order to find the men who defaced his work. “They showed that they cared more than I thought," said Stecca.
