Masquerade Motel a Hit in Miami

Masquerade Motel a Hit in Miami

With the doors to the massive tent opening at 3 p.m. the lines of masked party goers started flowing inward to the sounds and vibe of RiotGear. This would definitely not be your typical weekend event in Miami. Feeling like a sexy futuristic sci-fi version of Edgar Alan Poe's "Mask of the Red Death," the stage was most certainly set for Swedish House Mafia's Masquerade Motel. They made their stop in Miami before they headed off to Las Vegas. In Miami they were greeted by a 60,000-square-foot tent, Scope Art Arena, adorned with numerous discoballs, endless moving lights, and black lights which created a mysterious feel. RiotGear laid down a set creating the tone for the event, all while the endless flow of costumed bodies poured into the sound arena.

Sights were also tickled not only by the bodies in costumes but by visual artist VJ Psyber Pixie’s psychedelic grand visuals. TKO was then given the faders and drew the crowd in with the familiar Green Velvet’s “La La Land...” to start their performance. With a very edgy electro house sound to match their mixing style TKO plowed through each mix with an energetic show. Familiar face and local Patrick M found himself warmly greeted by his hometown crowd. With a residency at Space Miami, he rocks club-goers with his Latin-inspired house rhythms which are a natural experience. Cedric Gervais, another homegrown favorite, was given control of the feverish crowd and embarked on a melodic journey. His blend of sexy female vocals seemed to foreshadow and set the audio space for the following act of the evening, New York’s Grammy Nominated Brazilian Girls. A refreshing wave of worldly organic elements submersed the audience as the sultry voice of front woman, Sabina Sciubba, cut through the air. Wearing nothing but a black t-shirt with the statement “Out Of Control,” she and the rest of the Brazilian Girls seemed to reset the crowd to a close kind of groove. Closing out their set with their well known hit “Pussy, Pussy, Pussy, Marijuana..” Sabina left the mob of freaks wanting more.

As the night went on, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell arrived, and not a minute too soon, to display a full live and visual experience, imported straight from Ibiza. They had a full on visual show including costumed dancers and performers, confetti, cryogenics, and well over 6,000 party-goers. Ready to get this night started, they played some of the tracks that have made them famous, “Miami 2 Ibiza” and “One” both from their recently released album, Until One. The trio interacted with the crowd as they asked them to all sit down, and jump up as the last track of the night dropped.

In the words of the Swedish House Mafia "The people ARE the show and we want to you to join us and be our guest at the Masquerade Motel." This amazing event was one of the most attended in Halloween history for Miami.
