New Years resolution? Be drunk by the time 2011 arrives. This is the intention for most of us and I hope that it’s yours too, being that you’re reading this article right now. There are too many awesome New Years destinations for anyone to fall asleep before midnight strikes -that’s for kids. Here are some fun destinations and ideas for adults.
New York always makes the New Year’s Eve list and with good reason. They have the ball. With the streets of Manhattan packed to its usual, uncountable number of people, Times Square will not be the only thing buzzing. Most places will have an open bar for seven hours and Mars 2112 is the new “it” spot for the New Year’s Eve celebration. Webster Hall never disappoints though, containing 6 rooms and 4 enormous dance floors. For the first time, Ruby Tuesday has joined in the New Year’s Eve festivities offering a view just a few steps from the ball drop. For a cozier vibe, the Hotel Rivington and 49 Grove are more upscale spots for our American Express cardholders to watch the New Year’s ball drop in plush style.
“And they say Chi-City!” Chicago may be most known for musical mastermind, Kanye West, but the entire city is famous for its musical culture. So it would be foolish to believe that all that will be heard from the Navy Pier will be crackling fireworks, as jazz bands frequently help to ring in New Years with the civilians. Watch the sky light up across the Chicago skyline as the remnants fall into Lake Michigan. With an open bar and a private terrace with an excellent view, Crystal Gardens is the destination of choice to observe the New Year’s Eve sky. Wielding 45 fully-staffed bars and serving gourmet hor d’oeuvres, the Chicago Scene is gunning for the best New Year’s Eve party in the city. This is an event for the stars. The only downside to New Year’s Eve in Chicago is that bars stop serving alcohol at 1 a.m. and the parties shut down at 2 a.m.
Given that they drop an 800-pound peach every year at midnight, I’m sure James always enjoys New Year’s Eve in Atlanta. Once the peach drops, the crowd (James included) head to Kenny’s Alley, where there are numerous bars to choose from. Opera, Atlanta’s mega-nightclub, will be trying to deter people from the fireworks, in exchange for a whole lot of drinks and partying. But Atlanta’s #1 New Year’s Eve party will be held at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia Hotel. They offer seven rooms for partiers to lose their minds, free parking, a midnight champagne toast and a breakfast buffet. So once James throws up for the first time in 2011, he’ll be welcome to fill his stomach with a partier’s breakfast. Or if James gets lucky, he can get a room right upstairs for him and his date. Happy New Year!
Fireworks on Ocean Drive, palm trees and beach water: the usual. But if you look beyond the fireworks in the sky, there will be plentiful star sightings. Heartbreak Drake will be performing at Cameo to bring in the New Year, so ladies be fitted in your tightest dresses and come ready to sing. For the stoner partiers, Kid Cudi will be live at Wall in the W Hotel. Whatever your vice may be, bring it and let Cudi take the New Year’s Eve party to outer space. Mansion will have Steve Angello as the guest DJ spinning the house and hip-hop flavor that Miami is known for. For a smoother, more romantic evening head over to Prive where John Legend will be sure to set the mood for a sensual New Years. Lovers, enjoy.
The City of Sin will light up the night this New Year’s Eve better than any other city can. With neon signs and fireworks lighting up the Las Vegas strip, they will have Jay-Z and Coldplay to make New Year’s celebration nothing short of an epic experience. Both artists will be headlining at the Cosmopolitan Casino-Resort, which boasts a 65-foot screen for outsiders to watch from the strip. Surely this concert will be broadcasted across the nation for those who won’t be in Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve. As for those that will, enjoy a vibrant strip that will offer alcohol starting at noon, parties, gambling and sex.
Other notable New Years destinations include: Los Angeles, Atlantic City, London, New Orleans.
