In the past, New York City nightlife has been limited to Manhattan nightclubs, but if you aren’t satisfied with the selection or you’re just looking for something new, it’s time to look outside the borough.
Area Lounge in Flushing, Queens has given New Yorkers a reason to do just that, with a dance club, restaurant, pool hall and indoor smoking lounge all in one chic space. While the location provides Queens residents with a more convenient Saturday night party destination, the hype surrounding Area Lounge has turned heads in all boroughs, even getting Manhattanites to venture a little farther out on the weekends.
The lounge (which is really more of a subdued nightclub) exemplifies elegance through its rich and polished décor. A regal entryway, typically accented with attractive partygoers, sets the standard for the entire venue right at the first impression. Inside the 10,000-square-foot space, caramel hues and warm, earth tones dress the interior, while dimly-lit chandeliers set a sensual tone. The glass-enclosed smoking lounge is a main draw for many guests at Area Lounge, as well as a section in the back away from the dance floor, stocked with eight pool tables and room for a quick break from dancing or an intimate conversation.
Although Area Lounge is open seven days a week, the party doesn’t kick into full gear until the weekends. Fashionista Fridays bring in a solid crowd—and with free admission for everyone before midnight, two-for-one drinks from 10 – 11p.m. and a complimentary bottle of Grey Goose for groups of five girls before 11:30 p.m. it’s clear to see why.
Aside from the obvious nightlife draw, Area Lounge can also fill your appetite for a more upscale happy hour spot (since it opens at 2 p.m.) or just fill your appetite altogether. The Executive Chef at Area Lounge has taken a gourmet spin on the typical bar fare, upping the quality on dishes like Thai Chicken Spring Rolls, Mini Crab Cakes, Steak Tips, and of course, nachos.
Whether you live in Queens and want a stepped-up version of the neighborhood happy hour, or you simply need a break from your usual nightlife routine, Area Lounge may be just the spot you’re looking for.
