Props to the sweaty mess of a crowd at Webster Hall last night for dancing hard enough to make the floorboards bounce. Although the room was about 900 degrees and everyone’s personal space was invaded, the audience sang, danced, and perspired their way enthusiastically through night two (August 5th) of the NYC stop on the Robyn/Kelis All Hearts Tour.
Kelis jumped on the mic with "Milkshake" (clearly a crowd favorite, as seen in the video below) showing off her vocal skills (which were very impressive live) and her futuristic sex appeal through a metallic blue cat suit. Throughout her set, she gave the crowd a little taste of some dance music favorites, sampling Major Lazer and ODB, before belting out her most recent hit, “Accapella.”
Robyn, hit the Webster Hall stage looking like the badass Swedish chick she is. She came out donning a military-inspired outfit and pounded her way throughout her set effortlessly and passionately. She played mostly new music from Body Talk (“Fembot,” “Dancing on My Own,” and “Don’t F**king Tell Me What To Do,” to name a few). Although it would have been pleasantly surprising to hear “Show me Love,” it was clear that her fans were more than okay with newer tracks, which are lighter on the pop side and riding that of-the-moment electronic wave.
Towards the end of her set, Robyn threw on a beret and snacked on a banana, channeling her bad girl side. Must be all that potassium that got her through the energetic stage display, which struck the perfect balance between a heartbroken girl and a tough woman, fusing catchy choruses with dance-break electro into one great show.
Check out the clips below of Kelis performing “Milkshake” and Robyn (at the Wednesday night performance) ending her set on “With Every Heartbeat.”
