It looks like Lebron James and Dwayne Wade aren't the only ones inking new deals this week. One of America's most successful DJ-producers to date, Miami's own Oscar G., has recently inked a new deal and announced a new residency at Opium Group venue, Mansion nightclub, on South Beach starting Saturday, August 21, 2010.
"We are always looking to outdo ourselves at Mansion, and our monthly residency with Oscar G. once again allows us to offer our guests an experience unlike any other," said Carlos Correal, Director of Marketing for Mansion. "Oscar G.'s sound is legendary, and with our new partnership, we are truly offering Mansion's guests the best music has to offer."
Oscar G. previously held a residency at Club Space in downtown Miami since 2001, a world-renowned venue that's considered one of the best in North America and a place where he's left a legacy of sound.
"I have been very fortunate and grateful to enjoy a wonderful residency at Space for 10 years," said Oscar G. about what prompted his move. "Last year Space decided to change it's music policy. They took the main room I called home and switched it to a hip-hop format and added a new crop of residents to their roster. I tried playing as a guest on the Terrace a few times, but it didn't seem to fit. I enjoy playing marathon sets in big dark rooms."
Mansion is considered by many to be the hottest club in the city. Heralded by A-list celebrities, performers and DJs frequenting this venue, Mansion has hosted parties by the likes of David Guetta, Kim Kardashian and P. Diddy. Now they're also known to bring in some of the best talent in the electronic dance music world to Miami.
"I am so excited and anxious to give my local fans what they want," Oscar said. "I have been receiving several messages over the past few months from people asking me what was going on?/ why wasn't I playing at home? I think my patience payed off and I found the ideal situation. Things have become a bit saturated over the last few years locally and we have become complacent. I am hoping to give people a fresh take on this music and the overall clubbing experience. I am currently working on several ideas musically and visually that I think will make this special. Mansion has given me the green light to really take the production of the night up a notch so I am taking full advantage of that. You can expect performances and live music elements throughout the night as well as impromptu performances from some of the artists I work with."
As far as the branding for the monthly residency goes, Oscar G. does know exactly what he wants to do, and it's something that will definitely be appealing to locals.
"MADE IN MIAMI," Oscar said. "I was born and raised in Miami. I have always made it a point to try and be an ambassador for our scene when I am touring. I want to make this night about celebrating what we can do right here. I want this event to define what Miami's nightlife and house music scene can and should be. I am hoping it becomes something we can be proud of and can take to the rest of the world. I also hope to once again have a voice/outlet to bring about some change in Miami's over-commercialized, manipulated, corrupted DJ scene. Sometimes all it takes is a spark...next thing you know, DJs with talent are at the helm of the major clubs again. Imagine that!"
Oscar has recently played some dates at Cameo nightclub, a venue that he was familiar with in the past, but this will definitely be a new venture for him. A soon-to-be-released mix-compilation, and his heralded weekly Wednesday night party at Hoy Como Ayer, Tropicasa, have been keeping the artist busy as of late, but local fans may find it refreshing to see him at a new venue once this begins late next month.
"I have always made Miami a priority and I think Mansion is the perfect fit for me," Oscar said. "The Opium Group has shown a lot of enthusiasm in getting this done and I'm really looking forward to a brand new chapter in Miami nightlife."
