And This Year’s American Idol Is…

Phoenix House. Yup, you heard me. Phoenix House, the chain of addiction treatment centers all across America is this year’s new American Idol. How did they win? Well, first of all, they know how to throw a hell of a party—600 guests showed up at the beachfront Loeb Estate directly on the ocean in Southampton last weekend. Each of the guests donated hundreds or thousands of dollars to Phoenix House to attend the soiree. And guess who was there to mingle with the guests? Randy Jackson: the charming and charismatic judge from American Idol. His presence alone created electricity in the air and the audience hung on to his every word as he heaped praise on the good work done by Phoenix House. A charity speech becomes a “call to arms” when such a dynamic man makes the pitch. His inspiring words were followed by two other great speakers: honorees Charlie Walk and Tony DiSanto. Charlie ran Epic Records and Tony runs MTV. They each gave a great pep talk about how important Phoenix House was to the community and enjoyed mingling with all the guests. The audience obviously loved these two men, as crowds followed them around all night. The food and booze flowed freely through the beautiful evening, although I found it strange that they were serving booze at an addiction center fundraiser. It’s odd, like serving lobster at the Grand Opening of a new Synagogue. Nonetheless, with all the booze around, no one got too drunk to become a danger to themselves or others.

Two guest DJs, Cassidy and Donna D’Cruz played throughout the night and everyone had a great time dancing under the stars. I was surprised there wasn’t a live music performance, given the fact that a music mogul (Charlie Walk), a music video network honcho (Tony DiSanto), and a superstar record producer (Randy Jackson) all were in the house. Judging from how late the crowd partied, Phoenix House easily won the American Idol award for the best Hamptons charity event so far this summer… and I felt like the runner-up. Tony DiSanto agreed to meet with me in person to allow me to pitch my recently completed documentary SIR IVAN: I AM PEACEMAN to MTV. Could my own reality show be just around the corner? I can’t wait for my meeting. I’m so excited. I need to relax. Quick… someone pass me a joint… I mean a drink!

Life at best is short. PARTY TILL YOU DIE!
