South Beach is a name that’s commonly associated with other words; party, fun, sex, drinks, and of course nightlife. When you come to visit South Beach, you’ll most likely find yourself traveling on two streets, Ocean Drive and Washington Avenue. One leads to great restaurants, bars and the beach…the other is the true nightlife pulse of the city. Cars slowly and curiously cruise by Washington Avenue to pass by the many nightclubs there, seeing which has the most buzz out front. On any given Thursday through Saturday night, you’ll find a swarm of tourists and locals alike, crowding the doors of Cameo Nightclub.
There’s no way that you can drive by Cameo and have it go unnoticed. With a giant marquee that changes its line-up week in and week out, Cameo is what nightlife is all about in South Beach, music, dancing, drinks and fun. Once being the home of the legendary Crobar Nightclub, Cameo came onto the scene and opened up its doors in 2006 when Miami hosted Super Bowl 41. Now, Cameo has become one of the hottest nightclubs in the nation, with their take on “the dark and dirty side” of the disco era, becoming a symbol of rebirth on Miami Beach and Washington Avenue.
For tourists and locals Cameo is seen as almost a Mecca for real hard-core partying, as some of the parties don’t end until it’s past 5AM, but celebrities quickly caught drift of their style and popularity, and now it’s not uncommon to look up at the marquee up front and see hosts that range from Playboy playmates to Diddy himself. During Winter Music Conference some of the best DJs in the world come into Cameo and perform legendary sets. Sander Kleinenberg and Armin Van Buuren are just some names that drop in during the chaotic week, but Diddy has made Cameo his home during Winter Music Conference, teaming up with EDM DJs for the most unlikely of events.
Toward the end of 2009, The Opium Group acquired Cameo Nightclub and ever since, their parties have taken off and their list of DJs coming in on a weekly basis has grown incredibly. They haven’t made any changes as far as décor goes, but we hear there’s a major remodeling of the club in the works, and should be taking place soon this year. We think that compared to other Opium Group clubs, Cameo is a little bright. We think that they may tone down the colors, and bring in more of a chic sophisticated feel, much like SET and Mansion.
Cameo Nightclub definitely has to be mentioned among the best of the best, not only in Miami, but around the nation. There’s no slow night at this place, so show up whenever they have something going, and it’s sure to be a good night.
