Best Electronic Dance DJs in the United States
Music is sometimes hard to understand, and we’re not speaking about lyrics here. Take The Beatles, for example. Were they soft rock? How about pop rock? Labels, labels, labels – it’s hard to be considered straight-up rock-n-roll. The same applies for the insanely popular club music style of electronic dance. A type of music created primarily for and by DJs to play during a continuous set, electronic dance music is an ever-changing blend of various styles and genres, and as such, it has many, many labels.
Whether you call it techno, trance, electro or just “house music,” one thing’s for sure: electronic dance is far from a dead—or even dying, for that matter—art. The Europeans are absolute fanatic ravers, clubbing around the clock and cranking techno until their ears bleed. And at home here in the US, it’s really not that different, considering we’re home to the house (Chicago) and techno (Detroit) scene. Although we like to blend some pop, rock and hip hop in with our club tunes (depending on the DJ), electronic dance will always have a spot in the hottest clubs.
You can be sure of one thing when clubbing: Where there’s good music, there’s a great DJ. A disk jockey used to be known for scratching a few records here and there. But that was yesteryear. These days, DJs create their own outstanding sets, combining various genres with their own unique styling to produce a type of music that would make your grandmother shake her replacement hip on the dance floor.
It’s hard to quantify exactly what it takes to make a good DJ, and it’s even harder to select the best of the bunch. But here are a few of the hottest DJs ripping up the airways in the good, ole U-S of A.
Playing around Miami, Florida, Cali and Vegas, not to mention opening up the Olympic Games, Tiesto is one of the best DJs out there. Tiesto plays all over the world, but when he brings his unique brand of electronic bliss to the states, you can bet the crowd lines up in full force. His music is energy personified, playing for hours on end without missing a beat. But since Tiesto isn’t from our side of the planet, we’re gonna focus on the U.S. talent.
You can stay in for the night and play in best online casino to waste the night away. Or, if you’re feeling like letting loose, you can stop in and check out DJ Christopher Lawrence. A few years ago, Chris was one of the most influential DJs on the planet. And his style and talent has only improved in recent years. His trance music is truly one of a kind.
Music video producer and electronic DJ wonderboy Steve Porter is a huge name in the industry. Porter not only develops his own brand of music to play at his nightclub Porterhouse, he’s also responsible for some of the most popular parody remixes in the world, like Vince and the Slap Chop. To date, Porter has five original albums in circulation, each of which is considered a prized possession for any electronic fan.
Although coming in at number 51 in DJ Magazine’s top 100, Kaskade is an American, tried and true, deserving of his spot on this list, and his style of house/deep house music instantly becomes number-one in the hearts of everyone at the club. Kaskade also has five original albums in circulation and has worked with other greats of the business like Tiesto and the Canadian DJ Deadmau5. Kaskade is a mainstay on the Billboard charts.
Danny Tenaglia is one of the oldest DJs to make the list, but he’s also one of the more well-respected DJ’s on the planet. Danny is a NY-based DJ and has been nominated for a Grammy. His US garage and techno styles have earned him much praise around the Big Apple and beyond. Tenaglia picked up a head of steam in the 1970s and has been atop the best DJs list for nearly 4 decades. Now that’s impressive.
As the genre of electronic dance music continues to grow, more DJs crawl out of the woodwork, each adding their own unique flavor to the club scene. It’s hard to say who the absolute best is, because there are literally hundreds of DJs around the world that can easily turn a laid-back club into a legitimate nightlife spot worthy of worldly recognition.
