Halloween in San Antonio

To say that Halloween has a variety of traditions would be an understatement. From trick-or-treating to costume balls, scary movies to ghost stories, there are countless ways to celebrate the spookiest day of the year. In San Antonio, there are numerous outlets for your Halloween enthusiasm. The citizens of Alamo City offer a wide variety of events to satiate any All Hallow’s Eve fanatic’s appetite.

San Antonio’s Coffins on Parade is run by the city’s famous Paseo del Rio Association’s River Walk. Every Halloween, hordes of people gather along San Antonio River to watch Halloween-decorated boats float along with coffins riding shot-gun. This must-see event takes place Halloween night, because the real frights only come out in the dark. Check out Dick’s Last Resort, one of San Antonio’s hottest bars, for the official Coffins on Parade after-party.

The San Antonio party doesn’t stop at Dick’s Last Resort; tons of bars and clubs in the San Antonio area throw Halloween parties. San Antonio staples such as Bond 007 and Club Rive throw the scariest soirees in town. For costume enthusiasts, check out Bonham Exchange’s costume contest for some frightening competition.

Some of the scariest sites in the southwest are in San Antonio. Rated one of the spookiest hotels by the website TripAdvisor, the Menger Hotel certainly has a haunted history. Located directly adjacent to the Alamo, the Menger Hotel is known for its 43 different paranormal hotspots and is home to some infamous ghost personalities, such as Captain Richard King, whose funeral was held in the hotel’s parlor, and chambermaid Sallie White, who is often spotted walking the corridors holding clean towels. Sign up for a hotel tour on Halloween to get in touch with some authentic San Antonio spirits.

Another Halloween hotspot in San Antonio is Nightmare on Grayson, the city’s oldest haunted house. The carnival-like atmosphere is a frighteningly fun way to celebrate the holiday with paranormal investigators, tarot-card readers, and fearsome figures such as Freddie Krueger and Jason Voorhees dotting the landscape.

If you are looking to continue the celebration of spirits into the month of November, San Antonio celebrates Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead. Due to the city’s proximity to Mexico, this holiday, which honors the spirits of deceased loved ones, has events planned throughout the city. Join San Antonio Paranormal Investigations team on November 2nd to participate in the Mexican holiday. The organization is offering an altar for people to remember their loved ones, as well as the chance to communicate with the dead during EVP sessions.

Clearly, San Antonio presents a wide array of Halloween offerings that are both unique to the city and universal to Halloween enthusiasts.
