Halloween in Los Angeles

Halloween in Los Angeles

Some people in LA think they’ve seen it all. But this is only true if they’ve been to the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival, one of the largest Halloween nightlife events in the country. On Halloween night, Santa Monica Boulevard closes down for what’s touted as the largest Halloween street party in the world. It’s full of tons of stare-worthy sights, whether they be shocking, gaudy or next-to-nothing costumes. There are numerous stages set up for live music and the shops on the street stay open, so it’s worth attending even if you’re not decked out to win the $1,000 costume contest.

Halloween Downtown, hosted in Lot 613, is another all-out street fest, focusing more on music than West Hollywood’s event. The event tends to feature an eclectic mix of DJs and tons of live bands, playing everything from indie-pop to hardcore rock to covers of the classics. With dance parties all night and huge discounts for those who come in costume, you’ll be sure to want to check it out. The sights of zombies dancing with fairies and presidents dancing with sexy nurses never seem to disappoint.

While LA also has its fair share of haunted houses, its Hollywood Cemetery Walking Tour takes the cake for LA’s scariest Halloween event. Spine-chilling tours telling about the deaths of Hollywood celebs and showing scream-worthy monuments annually freak patrons out so much, they’re still seeing ghosts and ghouls days later.

But if blood drops aren’t an ingredient in your cup of tea, the city’s got tons of Halloween parties and Halloween nightclub events to help you celebrate the holiday in style. Bar Sinister has been known to throw the best goth Halloween parties for the last 25 years, bringing in live music, play rooms and fully-stocked bars offering special Absinthe concoctions. And it’s probably no surprise The Bondage Ball throws one of the best Halloween parties, with patrons dressed in the bar’s favorite form of clothing, for a Halloween ball you can’t find outside Los Angeles.

Tons of other clubs take favor to the holiday, with events such as Halloween Burlesque balls, Halloween lingerie balls and Halloween masquerades being hosted throughout the city. With Halloween on a Saturday this year, events are sure to fill up, start earlier and maybe even be a little more haunted. If you’re going to be in the city for the holiday, make sure to prepare with multiple costumes and lots of hydration.
