Unwind on the Outside: The Ravel Hotel Rooftop Bar and Lounge NYC

Unwind on the Outside: The Ravel Hotel Rooftop Bar and Lounge NYC

Aside from its harvest of moderately priced apartments and hip-ish, twenty-something tenants, Long Island City finally has a merited reason to call itself an up-and-coming neighborhood: The Ravel Hotel Rooftop Bar and Lounge.

As Long Island City’s first luxury boutique hotel, The Ravel has relocated a bit of Manhattan-esque extravagance – and just in time for the summer season - across the East River and onto the hotel’s crown level where the 6,000-square-foot space has been transformed into a candle-lit, open-air garden terrace for an evening out-of-town.

Featuring a 40-foot bar and a menu with an assortment of specialty cocktails (ex. blueberry mojitos and strawberry caipiroskas), guests can relax royally underneath the terrace’s hexagonally-shaped cabanas or perched on the minimalist, coral-hued patio furniture. Whether seated or afoot, the view of the entire, glittering city skyline will make even the most close-minded Manhattan-ite forget they’ve stepped off the island. As the Queensboro Bridge hovers to the side of the rooftop, one may even gain a newfound appreciation for the conduit’s architecture, rather than its plain functionality. The space can be rented for private events and in our opinion, would be a fantastic, water-front alternative to do so.

Early this month, The Ravel Hotel Rooftop Bar & Lounge launched a sequence of weekly events for the summer months. Beginning each week, Reel Mondays will feature outdoor film screenings where guests can enjoy a bottle of champagne and a basket of treats to enhance the big screen entertainment. Tuesday night, Rocks & Rolls, will offer professionally rolled cigars (on location, by a guest artisan) for visitors to take delight in while tasting their hand-crafted cocktails. Guests can dance to the Latin-infused Salsa music on Wednesday’s Noche en la Terraza, while indulging in specially priced Mojitos and Sangria. With Astoria’s Central Bar and Lounge as its partner, The Ravel Hotel Rooftop Bar & Lounge will host a sophisticated, Thursday night happy hour and late-night event to launch your weekends.

The Ravel Hotel Rooftop Bar and Lounge offers guests a shuttle service from all Manhattan locations to the Long Island City nightlife venue, and reversely, for a flat-fee of $25. Expediently, guests can coordinate with the hotel’s front desk to arrange the service.

The Ravel’s owner, Ravi Patel, aimed to emulate a heated, Miami party, with live D.J.'s spinning until 1 AM, but we think this rooftop has emerged with an identity of its own – one that can only be described simply as the new-fangled, Long Island City cool.
