Swallow and Swill: NYC’s Top Restaurants to Dine and Drink

Swallow and Swill: NYC’s Top Restaurants to Dine and Drink

Bars, restaurants, ultra-lounges, pubs, nightclubs, eateries? The terminology can get awfully twisted, terrifically fast. More over, a swarming expanse of places to dine and drink doesn’t make New York City any easier to navigate. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if there were one destination that had it all? Food, drink and atmosphere? Yes, way! Behold, Clubplanet’s choice venues for eats, liquor treats and party skeets!

 Stanton Social
99 Stanton Street
New York, NY 10011
212-995-0099

Stanton Social is the variety of place you hear a lot about; too much, almost. But we can’t get enough: delectable bites, exquisite cocktails, vibrant atmosphere and a beautiful crowd. The venue really does have it all – any night, every night – the Stanton Social will not disappoint on any level. Moving on…

Merkato 55
55 Gansevoort Street
New York, NY 10014
212-255-8555

Who said brunch was just for French toast and bacon? Not us! Step it to Merkato 55 for your mid-Saturday breakfast and a party to boot. But don’t expect a college ‘kegs and eggs’ themed bash. This spot is a more refined version of just that. (Think egg whites, without the kegs… just Veuve and Goose, baby.) Enjoy a light fare and heavy daytime drinking in the heat of New York City streets.

Via dei Mille
357 West Broadway
New York, NY 10014
212-431-0080

What do you get when you cross a nightclub background with a blind stab at restaurateur-ing? Via dei Mille, of course. Well, that’s what the owners of Stereo and Rocco’s La Playa came up with, anyways. If you enjoy eating in a clubby atmosphere with music bumping, then this is the spot for you. However, do not expect miniature inventions to sweep the menu. Via dei Mille serves rustic Italian; there will be heaps of food and large carafes of wine.

Pop Burger
58-60 Ninth Avenue
New York, NY 10011
212-414-8686

Pop Burger is as contemporary-kitsch as it sounds. This restaurant+lounge has juicy burgers, piping-hot French fries and creamy shakes. Famous as a Meatpacking District, post-party eatery, we suggest Pop Burger in the opposite fashion, as a dinnertime destination for food and then drinks to follow. The Basquiat décor rocks and the pool table can be fun. Besides, what is better than fast food and a high-speed party on the side?

Hudson Terrace
621 West 46th Street
New York, NY 10022

As a new player in the game of rooftop, Hudson Terrace has hit it out of the park by serving up brunches that are perfect for sunning and schmoozing. Order a pitcher of White Mango-Peach Sangria and you’ve found quite a heavenly day. Can’t stomach the sun after last night? Check out the Hudson Terrace for it’s after work scene. A tad dimmer, but just as delightful.

Boucarou
64 East First Street
New York, NY 10003
212-529-3262

Boucarou, the East Village mega-lounge by way of Cameroon native Patrice Bihina, is named for the open-air communal spaces constructed in West Africa where friends can assemble to eat, converse, drink and dance. Naturally, it positions itself as one of New York City’s best places to do just that. Slurp a Senegalese peanut stew; sip on a featured ‘night kit’ – a bottle service-type sampling of various liquors – and take pleasure in the like-minded crowd that surrounds.

Kingswood
121 West 10th Street
New York, NY 10011
2121-645-0044

Three words: Aussie. Hipster. Chic. The West Village’s Kingswood, serves an Australian fare that features a pleasant, roasted chicken plate, a larger than life burger and a handful of seafood dishes. Pretty standard, mate. Couple the cuisine with a surprisingly unique cocktail list that utilizes understated hints of ginger, elderflower, and lavender and you’re 2 for 3. Grab a stool at the bar and plan to hang about until late. Oh, and don’t forget to dress the part.

Brother Jimmy’s BBQ
181 Lexington Avenue
New York, NY 10016
212-779-4727

Sure, this joint is a chain, but don’t knock it ‘til you try it. The perfect place to cheer on your college alma mater, Jimmy’s BBQ serves dishes that make you feel like you are actually in a stadium. (C’mon, admit it, ballpark food is that good.)  And the energy is much of the same. Challenge your pals to an afternoon of drinking every beer on the menu, and we can assure that you will stay the night.
