Winter Music Conference (WMC) 2009 Party Lineup

Winter Music Conference (WMC) 2009 Party Lineup

by Clubplanet
03.24.2009

Winter Music Conference is officially under way ladies and gentleman, and Clubplanet is in the thick of things. We’ll be providing you with daily previews of the best events that you should look out for, which make the decision making process for WMC a bit easier. Be sure to keep a look out every morning, because if you wait too long, chances are that you’ll probably miss your chance at nabbing a ticket.

TUESDAY, MARCH 24

Event: Mansion Loves Electro
Venue: Mansion
The Talent: Benny Benassi, Calvin Harris (DJ set), The Bloody Beetroots, Sneaky Sound System LIVE

Mansion always kicks off Winter Music Conference with it’s all out electro party. This one features some electro heavy hitters (although the genre is at its tail-end) like Benny Benassi, The Bloody Beetroots and LA Riots (who mainly just throw on remixes, eh). Last year’s party featured more of an upper, in the form of Boysnoize and Lazaro Casanova, but don’t be surprised if this year’s party is just as big of a hit. Benny always brings them out in the droves.

Event: Favela Chic Special Edition
Venue: Mokaï
The Talent: Roctakon, Vice, Ross One

If you’ve ever been to Favela Chic on a Tuesday night at Mokaï, then you already know that all the ladies really like to come out to this one. The Winter Music Conference ‘special edition’ of the party should still pack the house, even though the talent isn’t as promising as other venues. Mokaï is Mokaï, so expect the venue to be slammed with Miami’s pretty faces. This may be a party that’s good to not feel the full-extent of the WMC storm.

Event: AM Only’s Marco Corola and Paco Osuna
Venue: Hed Kandi Lounge
The Talent: You guessed it…Marco Corola and Paco Osuna

This venue is a virgin to Winter Music Conference, so it’s sure as hell going to be interesting when they bring in two guys known for their minimal techno, Marco Corola and Paco Osuna. Although it’s more of an intimate venue, I think that’ll add a lot more to the mix of the party, rather than your typical big space filled with sweaty dancing bodies. Well…this’ll probably have the same demographic, only with a smaller space.

Event: Rowdy Records Presents…
Venue: LIV Nightclub
The Talent: Dallas Austin, DJ Ruckus, Felix da Housecat

Here’s an event that comes out of left field when you think about Winter Music Conference and their usual line-ups. LIV’s hosting Rowdy Records with none other than Dallas Austin performing live. I know him to be a hell of a producer, but I didn’t know that he got in front of the mic as well. DJ Ruckus, from Mansion’s We Rock Hip Hop, will also be behind the decks, along with Felix da Housecat, who seems to love to do shows with rappers.

Event: SOS at BED
Venue: BED
The Talent: Desyn Masiello, Omid 16B & Demi

Future Mob and Embrace are known to throw some of the best parties during Winter Music Conference, so expect nothing less than stellar when they bring SOS to BED on the first night of Conference. Sure, if you get Desyn Masiello, Omid 16B or Demi spinning solo at a nightclub on any given night than its great. But there’s something really special about their performance when they team up. This one should not be missed, so get that ticket NOW!

Event: Shelter
Venue: Shine Nightclub
The Talent: Timmy Regisford, Quentin Harris, Ben Johnson, Adam Rios

The lineup that the Shelborne has put together this year is extremely impressive, and they definitely kick things off in the right way as they bring back the Shelter party. Timmy Regisford, Quentin Harris and Ben Johnson are just a few names that’ll be supplying the soundtrack of the night. The Wantickets Store sets up shop at the Shelborne, so everyone from the store will definitely be leaking over to this event.

Event: Mash Appeal
Venue: Dolce Miami
The Talent: The Rapture (DJ Set)

Dolce Miami is booked all week with the very interesting ‘Mash Appeal’ event series. On the first night they’ll be bringing in indie-dance rockers The Rapture to provide a DJ set. These guys are a bit more on the DFA Records when it comes to their DJ sets, but something tells me that it’s gonna be a very good party. Also featuring Le Castle Vania, AC Slater and Nadastrom behind the decks, I think this party is aiming at the hipster kids in town.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25

Event: Flamingo Nights
Venue: SET
The Talent: Fedde Le Grand, Tocadisco, Funkerman

Fedde Le Grand has created a nice little unique style and following to his sound. The thing about this party is that it’s going to match up perfectly with the lineup for Flamingo Nights. Tocadisco just played in Miami to a very pleased crowd, so it’s pretty fair to say that this one’s going to be a homerun for The Opium Group yet again.

Event: Release Yourself
Venue: Mansion
The Talent: Roger Sanchez

Roger Sanchez is a name that’s synonymous with both electronic dance music, and Winter Music Conference. On the second day of the notorious event he comes into one of the best venues in South Beach, Mansion, to deliver a 7-hour set! He has a God-like following, so expect his fans to come out in the drove and enjoy every minute of his set. It’ll be good from start to finish.

Event: Get Wild
Venue: Cameo
The Talent: Sharam, Cedric Gervais, Reza

Probably one of the best looking venues in North America, Cameo Nightclub is bringing in Deep Dish’s own Sharam for Winter Music Conference. Everyone knows he’s got some of the biggest commercial hits when it comes to EDM, and the ladies love those tracks, so expect this one to be flooded with the opposite sex guys.

Event: Dig Deeper
Venue: BED
The Talent: Danny Howells

This is quite possibly one of THE best events that Winter Music Conference has to offer. If you’ve never heard of Danny Howells, quickly Google the man and you’ll get an endless list of music that’s nothing but quality. It’s going to be interesting to see him at a smaller venue for this historic event. We’ll definitely be in attendance and so should all of you.

Event: Attack of the 50 Foot Tenaglia
Venue: Parkwest Nightclub
The Talent: Danny Tenaglia, The Martinez Brothers

The infamous Danny Tenaglia brings his endless bags of musical tricks into Parkwest Nightclub. Expect the set to be…well, not short. This guy’s known to spin music for hours on end, and this time he’s not coming alone. He’s bringing the Martinez Brothers to rock the house as well. There couldn’t be a better venue than Parkwest Nightclub for this one.

Event: Everything Inbetween
Venue: The Electric Pickle
The Talent: Lee Curtiss, Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves, Marcashken

Safe is an event production company that’s relatively new. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t know what they’re doing. Bringing in some of THE best in underground EDM, they’ve managed to book the new Electric Pickle with some great acts. Tonight, they bring in Lee Curtiss, Ryan Crosson and Shaun Reeves. What else could you possibly want?

Event: OVUM Party
Venue: Shine Nightclub
The Talent: Josh Wink, Steve Bug, Davide Squillance

This year at the Shelborne, the producers really outdid themselves as they’ve teamed up with DJMag and created one of the best lineups in all of conference. Tonight they once again bring OVUM into Shine with Josh Wink, Steve Bug, and Davide Squillance. It’s hard to top this party on this night because the sounds of these three sync up perfectly.

Event: Welcomes to Miami
Venue: Nikki Beach Club
The Talent: Steve Lawler, Audiofly, Nic Fanciulli, Oscar G, Ralph Falcon and more

Every year Welcome To Miami is the perfect kick-off party for anyone who’s from out of town and especially for the locals as well. Last year the weather was perfect and the crowd at Nikki Beach Club was in awe of all of the A-list DJs that were in one place prepared to throw down the some of the meanest EDM around. If you really want to start off on the right foot, this is the party to do it at.

THURSDAY, MARCH 26

Event: Super You & Me
Venue: Mansion
The Talent: Laidback Luke, Diplo, A-Trak, Chocolate Puma, Bart B More, The Partysquad, Hardwell, and Avicii.

Listening to house these days might lead one to believe that Jack might be dead, his coffin nailed shut with cheesy ass house tunes.  But ye of little faith my find it restored at Super You & Me, where Jack has taken a new shape in the form of Jacking electro tracks from the likes of Bart B More,  A–Track, and Laidback Luke.  It should be a great night, where house and electro come together to be enjoyed by both hipsters and house heads alike.

Event: Sasha & Digweed
Venue: Mansion
The Talent: Sasha, Digweed, Guy J

The names Sasha & Digweed go together like Drum & Bass.  Both of these class-acts are great on their own regard, but putting them together is sure to make for a serious night of house music.  Even though they don’t need support, Guy J will compliment them well.  He’s an up-and -coming Israeli DJ who recently released an artist album and is opening for more and more world-renowned names.

Event: Steve Angello and DJ AM
Venue: Mansion
The Talent: Steve Angello and DJ AM

You know that all best are off when you see Top 40 Hip-Hop mashup extraordinaire DJ AM opening up for a member of the Swedish House Mafia.  But hey, we should have seen it coming when he shared the stage with Deadmau5 last year.  Say what you want about DJ AM, but the dude isn’t ignorant about his music.  I’d attend this event purely out of curiosity.

Event: Drumcode Miami 2009
Venue: Glass
The Talent: Adam Beyer, Christian Smith, Alexidelano, Paul Ritch, Joel Mull, and Kyle Geiger

Whoever said techno had to be minimal and pretentious?  The people over at Drumcode have been churning out amazing techno tracks for a while, but you can’t get the full flavor of their talent from what they do in the studio.  If you’re a fan of their speaker-thumping brand of techno (or just good music in general) I’d recommend checking this one out.

Event: Juicy Beach
Venue: Nikki Beach
The Talent: Robbie Rivera, James Zabiela, Axwell, Tocadisco, Kaskade, Starkillers, Austin Leeds, ATFC, Joachim Garrud, DMS12 and more.

Even with the cheesy house regularly seeping out of the speakers at Nikki Beach, it’s still a cool place to hang out.  But replace those cheesy mix CDs with Robbie Rivera, James Zabiela, Kaskade, and Tocadisco, and you might want to set up camp there permanently.  And I guess you can, technically, they do have beds after all (that is if you can put up with noisy neighbors).

Event: Minus featuring Richie Hawtin and Guests
Venue: Karu & Y
The Talent: Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Paco Osuna, Troy Pierce, Konrad Black, Barem, and Gaiser

This annual party is a Minimal techno lover’s wet dream.  Richie Hawtin has been around since the dawn of modern techno, and thankfully for us he surrounds himself with the best and brightest of the scene.  He’s also doing some interesting things with Traktor 3, a mixing program that allows him to sync up his laptop with multiple DJs at a time, or weave together songs on the fly with four virtual decks.  It’ll be an interesting night.

Event: Toolroom vs. Viva
Venue: Space
The Talent: Steve Lawler, Luciano, Timo Mass Tiefschwarz, Fedde Le Grand, Mark Knight, Martijn Ten Velden, Josh Gabriel, Funkadgenda, ATFC

This is a whopper of a party.  In the main room at Space, Toolroom Knights will be showcasing their best talent, while Viva Music does the same thing on the Terrace.  Not only will the Toolroom and Viva’s founders Mark Knight and Steve Lawler be spinning, but they’re bringing their friends along too.  This is the kind of night that makes Conference Conference.

FRIDAY, MARCH 27

Event: Bob Sinclar
Venue: SET
The Talent: Bob Sinclar and Cutee B

He’s one of the few DJs whose songs get squeezed in between “Jesse’s Girl” and “All the Single Ladies.”  Love him or hate him, at least Bob Sinclar has a positive outlook on life, and maybe that’s why so many people love him.  Getting into this party is probably going to prove harder than breaking into the Vatican, so make sure to show up early.

Event: BoysNoize Records Party
Venue: Louis
The Talent: Boys Noize, D.I.M., Shadow Dancer, Steve Strip

Electro fans rejoice!  Boys Noize is coming to Louis and bringing their special brand of electro goodness to the DJ booth.  If you just got a new pair of bright-pink neon sneakers and don’t know where to wear them out, this is the place.  Just make sure that they are comfortable because this night will be very conducive to dancing

Event: Swedish House Mafia
Venue: Mansion
The Talent: Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Kim Fai

They have been responsible for some of many hit songs of the past few years, and it doesn’t seem like their momentum is going anywhere but up.  If big room house is your thing, then the Swedish House Mafia is your dream team.  I could throw around some generic terms like “up tempo” or “high energy,” but if you know anything about theses three Swedes, it would just be a gross understatement.

Event: James Zabiela and Nic Fanciulli
Venue: Studio K
The Talent: James Zabiela, Nic Fanciulli, KOS, Tom Budden

James Zabiela and Nic Fanciulli are two names that are often seen together on flyers.  If you see them live, their chemistry is palpable.  Between Fanciulli’s crate full of great tracks and Zabiela’s propensity for scratching and all-around technical wizardry, it’ll be a night to remember.

Event: Kaskade
Venue: BED
Talent: Kaskade

With all the speaker-blowing events going on this WMC it would be nice to take a break and see a DJ that doesn’t push amplifiers to their limits.  Kaskade has skillfully maneuvered through a minefield of mind-numbing electro house and maintained soulful sounds while also firmly planting both feet in the DJ master class.  If you’re looking for a night of guaranteed substance, check it out.

Event: Nervous WMC
Venue: Nocturnal
The Talent: Oscar G, Tom Stephan, Funkagenda, Chris Lake, Mark Bron, Steve Mac, Austin Leeds

New York based Nervous records knows good house music.  Along with Miami’s favorite resident Oscar G, there will be other big names such as Chris Lake, Steve Mac, and Funkadgenda.  If you’re from Miami, you should feel right at home at Nocturnal.

Event: AM Only
Venue: Karu & Y
The Talent:  Laidback Luke, Christopher Lawrence, Funkerman, Guy J, Joachim Garrud, Robbie Rivera, Roger Sanchez, Tom Stephan, Adam Beyer, Adultnapper, Starkillers, Bart B More, Chris Lake, Loco Dice, Paul Ritch, Sander Kleinenberg

This is a marathon in every sense of the word.  If you are the kind of person that absolutely loathes sleep and absolutely loves big names DJs than this is the party for you.  It’ll be going on for a whopping 14 hours and features a bucket list that seemingly includes every DJ in town.  The amount of DJs at this event could pack a moderately sized bar.

Event: Pete’s Pool Party
Venue: Surfcomber
The Talent: Pete Tong, Dubfire, Timo Maas, Steve Lawler, M.A.N.D.Y., James Zabiela, Tiefschwarz, Cedric Gervais, Erol Alkan, Heidi

When Pete Tong throws a pool party it’s bound to be good.  The lineup is eclectic and the talent substantial, so it’s sure to be one of the best parties under the sun.  This “Essential Mix” host will most likely be inviting people that are easy on the eyes and others that will be a joy for your ears.

Event: Erol Alkan and Friends
Venue: The Vagabond
The Talent: Erol Alkan, Lat of the Pier (live), Rye Rye, Riton, Dave P

The Vagabond is a great place to be any normal day, so when they get some big names to come into town it’s all that much better.  Think of it as a very special edition of Friday nights at the Vagabond.  We all know that the residents there are great, but every time we get the opportunity to see someone like Alkan, it keeps it interesting.

SATURDAY, MARCH 28

Event: F*** Me I’m Famous
Venue: Mansion
The Talent: David Guetta, Laidback Luke, DJ Chuckie, Hardwell, The Partysquad

I’m a bit jealous of David Guetta.  It’s not just because he is one of the top DJs in the world, getting paid thousands of dollars to travel the globe and play records.  It’s because if he used the line “F*** Me I’m Famous” on a girl at WMC it would most likely work.  We know that he isn’t in it for the chicks, because he is actually hosting the event with his wife Cathy.  Everybody loves a family man with some good house tunes.

Event: Stealth Live
Venue: SET
The Talent: Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, Brok & Fitch, Bart B More, Tom Stephan

These label parties are always so much fun because the person throwing them is seasoned DJ, which means they’ll bring the same quality talent to the decks that they also bring to the studio.  Stealth records, founded by Roger Sanchez are no exception.  He’s always cultivating good talent, and here is a good chance to check it out.

Event: Undocumented Management presents MSTRKRFT
Venue: Louis
The Talent: MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots, LA Riots, Klevr, Felix Cartal, Dan Oh

It’s not uncommon to see record labels throwing parties over WMC, but it isn’t every day that you see a management company doing the same thing.  Undocumented specializes in quality electro fare, and you’ll be able to see it at Louis.

Event: Armin Van Buuren Extended Set
Venue: Cameo
The Talent: Armin Van Buuren, Jerome Ismaae

Armin Van Buuren, voted #1 DJ by DJMag, will be coming to Mansion on Saturday.  He’s definitely earned the title, and if you love trance, you should be there.  Oftentimes you’ll only get a chance to see someone that big for about an hour, but he’ll be playing an extended set.

Event: Get Physical
Venue: Studio K
The Talent: M.AN.D.Y., Booka Shade, Matthew Dear, Audiofly, Italoboyz

What could be better than seeing the best and brightest from Get Physical?  How about 12 hours of the best and brightest from Get Physical?  While everyone on the beach will be shutting their doors at 5AM, the liberal liquor licensing of downtown has wonderful implications for those who would rather spend the better part of their mornings dancing than sleeping.

Event: OM: Miami
Venue: Karu & Y
The Talent: Mark Farina, DJ Sneak, Colette, DJ Heather, Mike Monday, Diplo, Chromeo

It’s wonderful that OM records can maintain their prevalence on a scene riddled with house music that causes both ear and brain damage.  It’s also wonderful that OM records will be doing what they do best at Karu & Y for nine hours of pure jacking house.

Event: Miami Gets Salted
Venue: Nikki Beach
The Talent: Miguel Migs, King Britt, Julius Papp, Turntables on the Hudson, Joshua Heath, Nathan G, Wiseacre, Lisa Shaw

Here is another day party worth checking out.  If you can’t catch Migue Migs at BED, or feel like seeing him during the day, this is your chance.  Make sure to stay hydrated, because the kind of music they’ll be playing at this event isn’t very conducive to anything but dancing.

Event; Lights Out
Venue: Nocturnal
The Talent: Steve Lawler, Clive Henry

Steve Lawler has been doing his Lights out party for so many years, it’s almost obligatory to attend during WMC.   He isn’t just going to show up for an hour or two either: Lawler will be playing a four-hour set, from 12AM to 4AM.  That might be early in Miami time, but it’d be a good idea to get there around 12AM to avoid lines and get the full experience.

Event: Digweed and Guy J
Venue: The Vagabond
The Talent: Digweed and Guy J

If you can’t make it to Mansion to see Sasha, Digweed, and Guy J, you still have a chance to see two out of the three at The Vagabond.  It’ll be an interesting event, seeing as how The Vagabond is such an intimate venue and Digweed is such a big name. You’ll have an experience much more close-knit than you can get anywhere else.  Oh and did I mention free Belvedere vodka from 9-10?

SUNDAY, MARCH 29

Event: Benny Benassi & Italian Friends
Venue: SET
The Talent: Benny Benassi, Alex Gaudino, Chicco Secci

If there’s one DJ that can pack a house at any time of the year regardless of what’s going on it’s Benny Benassi. This guy loves his electro house, and his fans do too! For this special session at SET nightclub he’s bringing along Alex Gaudino and Chicco Secci, Mansion resident. Expect it to be chaotic inside, but in a good, clean, drinking and dancing kind of way.

Event: Danny Tenaglia Pool Party
Venue: The Shelborne Pool
The Talent: Danny Tenaglia

You can’t have a proper Winter Music Conference experience without seeing at least two hours of a set by Danny Tenaglia. This is his big event and the Shelborne’s bringing it to their pool. If you have tickets for this one, be prepared, you’re in for a hell of a journey as Danny T. takes you through nearly 12 hours of some of the best music you’ll ever hear.

Event: Little Mountain Rocks
Venue: Shine Nightclub
The Talent: Sander Kleinenberg, Dennis Ruyer, James Nidecker, Lin

It’s a bit of a tradition for Sander Kleinenberg to have an all out bash for his label, Little Mountain Records, with the rest of his crew. This time around they’re at Shine Nightclub and will be putting one of the best sound systems in South Beach to good use. Sander’s known for controlling his amazing visuals as well, so you’re in for a treat.

Event: Mobilee Records
Venue: Studio K
The Talent: Anja Schneider, Miss Jools, GummiHZ, Dan Curtin, Ralf Kollmann

When everyone heard that the defunct Studio A was opening its doors again only for Winter Music Conference as Studio K, let’s just say it warmed all of our hearts. On the last night of WMC they bring in German label Mobilee Records for some non-stop minimal techno. This is the perfect setting for Mobilee to get busy.

Event: MMC Closing Pool Party
Venue: The Surfcomber Hotel
The Talent: Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Mark Knight, Dirty South, Kaskade

What better way to end your Winter Music Conference experience than at this pool party. Some of WMC’s best will be in attendance and supplying the soundtrack of the day and night like Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Mark Knight, Dirty South, Kaskade. The Surfcomber puts on THE best pool parties of WMC, and this one is sure to leave some nice memories behind.

Event: Bob Sinclar feat. Axwell and The Sugar Hill Gang
Venue: Mansion
The Talent: Bob Sinclar, Axwell, Wonder Mike, Master Gee

This may be one of the oddest ways to end Winter Music Conference, but it’s sure to probably be one of the best. Bob Sinclar will wrap things up for the Opium Group at Mansion with fellow house-man Axwell, but that’s the surprise. The legendary Sugar Hill Gang’s Wonder Mike and Master Gee will also be performing! What a pair, what a pair!

Event: Ninth Annual Mixology Closing Party
Venue: LIV Nightclub
The Talent: Pete Tong, Steve Lawler, Tom Novy & Mark Lewis

LIV’s the closest thing to a Vegas style club that you’ll get on South Beach, which is exactly why it’s going to be interesting to see how they’re vibe is going to be when the Winter Music Conference invasion ends. Tonight they host the Ninth Annual Mixology closing party with Pete Tong, Steve Lawler, Tom Novy and Mark Lewis. Expect good things.

Event: Space MMC Closing Party
Venue: Club Space
The Talent: Oscar G, Ralph Falcon, Behrouz, Cedric Gervais and many more

If you want some good advice, we say this is the party to be at to say farewell to Winter Music Conference 2009. One of the best electronic music venues in North America will be putting on a hell of a show with DJs Oscar G, Ralph Falcon, Behrouz, Cedric Gervais, Lazaro Casanova and Stryke. Don’t miss this one.
