This week we faced quite the predicament. We had to debunk a myth we in part perpetuated, namely that New York nightlife was dead. There was much speculation about the specific reasons and a sentiment that it's has been dying since the birth of bottle service, and with the community boards taking away liquor licenses, the death knells are sounding.
So we made it our goal to find out where the cool kids were hanging out after dark. In our most extensively researched post to date, we interviewed several in the know New Yorkers and compiled a list, complete with an interactive map, of where we believe lie the next Beatrice Inns and The Boxes.
In keeping with the spirit of team clubland, we scored one of Richie Akiva's 1oak baseball caps and have been wearing it around Bowery street (the new "it" street) all week.
In nightlife blogging news, our good friend and Night Life King Steve Lewis has left JoonBug and taken his ever popular "Goodnight Mr Lewis" blog over to Blackbook Magazine. Ever the faithful friend, he sat down with us first, days before the move to tell us why he decided to go and what changes are in store. Steve also shared a letter he received from infamous Club Kid Michael Alig in prison:
This week we also celebrated toe opening of Ella's, a new piano bar in the LES that is sure to get us all in the 20s spirit. We are hoping to check out the limited seating (VIP) basement soon where we hear the real action takes place.
And finally, in case you're new to all of this, we found a handy guide on how to keep your social graces when out at night...because once you check your dignity at the door, it's all downhill from there. Till next time.
