Event Preview NY: Trouble & Bass

Event Preview NY: Trouble & Bass

This month's edition of Trouble & Bass promises to be yet another banger.

Held at the end of the month at Greenwich Village club Love, these parties are synonymous with dance floor madness. Trouble & Bass explores the lower depths of dance music, with a cockney twist: bassline, grime, 2-step (and its American cousin, B-more club music), and a little bit of hip hop are mashed together by resident DJs Drop The Lime, The Captain, Star Eyes and Math Head. This Friday, Francophilian funksters Goon and Koyote drop the bass on the masses at Love.

Love is the perfect venue for these deep, dank sounds. The fact that the dance floor is kept pitch black adds to the aura of Trouble & Bass. The in your face low ends rattle the most stagnant wall flowers to move.Thankfully, it¹s not just an annoying drone; the DJs utilize everything from feedback-heavy violins to the sounds of a bullet cartidge shell falling on the floor to keep everyone moving.

Unlike trance, where the repetitive high ends take clubgoers into a (for lack of a better term) trance, bassline puts you in that same state of euphoria but does it much more subtly. Instead of "hands in the air," its bodies in the air as the Trouble & Bass low end theory keeps you jumping.

Trouble & Bass takes place tonight at Love.
