A Toshi Mardi Gras

Looks like Williamsburg is the new East Manhattan.  When legendary party promoter Toshi hosts his infamous Mardi Gras party across from the now-defunct Domino Sugar Refinery, you know the neighborhood is taking a turn for the (insert your own adjective here). Half-nude airbrush-painted women provided the drinks and performed a topless fashion show, throwing the male-heavy crowd into a frenzy and fueling the antics for an evening of open-bar drinking and dancing.

The megaparty at Brooklyn Sugar is a departure for Toshi-promoted events, which are usually hosted at Manhattan's posh Puck Building in Soho. Toshi himself lamented before the party that Manhattan no longer offers quality venues for parties of 3000-5000 people, but he declared triumphantly, "Williamsburg is now the place to be for the big party crowd." And so it surely was on a desolate street corner in a former industrial area (luxury condos are currently going up just across the street), as thousands of revelers paid $40 to $60 to ogle the bare-breasted performers and dance the night away until the 3am.

Long-time Toshi fan Renee states, "[This party] is amazing, it's really amazing… Toshi is an amazing party thrower!" shortly before darting off to dance to her favorite song, "As The Rush Comes" by Motorcycle. Steve from Brooklyn marveled at the performers, shouting, "The girls here are crazy! And the alcohol, can't get enough!"

Morgan, one of the masseuse artists who has been a performer with Toshi since 2005, said before the show that she was looking forward to "having a good time, people going crazy. And naked girls… what else could you ask for?"  Nothing except for reliable transportation, often hard to get in that area of town, but which for the evening was provided by the taxis who had lined up outside the party to offer rides home for the many Manhattan-dwelling partiers in attendance. Overall, it was an intense party night meeting all the lofty expectations one would have for the infamous Toshi parties.
