SUNDAY FUNDAY: That Poppy - Money - [ISLAND]
“If money can’t buy happiness then why is it so fabulous?” Isn’t that the perfect philosophical question to ponder on Sunday Funday? Cute as a button pop-tart That Poppy takes a left-turn from her ska-pop “Lowlife” and changes her inspiration from No Doubt to Robyn. “Money” is pure mindless bubble gum electropop with the precocious teen singing about how great money is, though she is clearly portraying a character for this song. Take a listen to her song “American Kids,” and the line “I’m a dumb pop star in my own right” is so meta that she is clearly in on the joke. Will Top 40 radio be able to embrace this and launch her into the stratosphere as the next Britney or Daya? Who knows, let’s just enjoy this fun pop showtune in the making for Sunday Funday.
