A roundup of great electro, indie dance, trop house, future r&b, deep house, reggae house and progressive tracks.

Sebastian Kill X Beat Ventriloquists - Speeding Up - [BOOMNOTE]

When R&B artists delve into the dance music world, the results are often quite incredible.  “Speeding Up” is what “Hotline Bling” would have sounded like if Drake would have worked with Sigma or Rudimental instead of Nineteen85.  Commercial drum & bass peppered with trap beats back the breakup lyrics sung by newcomer Sebastian Kill.  It stands out from the rest of ‘We’ve Come So Far’ EP, which is mostly nu-house pop dance tracks that you would expect from someone like Duke Dumont or Disclosure.  As long as they keep experimenting with different soundscapes and bring the pop melodies, Sebastian Kill and Beat Ventriloquists will be ones to watch.

Kat Krazy ft Ina Wroldsend - We Stand Up - [3 BEAT]

Ina Wroldsen is basically the Norwegian Bonnie McKee, the songwriter behind every major hit for a huge pop star.   If you look at the catalog of superstar UK pop group The Saturday, you will see that Ina co-wrote EVERY one of them.  Teaming with they quirkily brilliant duo Kat Krazy, she has created the most hooky pop dance song you could imagine.  It really is an earworm, with the intro keyboard hook and the singalong chant, “We Stand Up” is a song that will be stuck in your head after the first listen.  Now, when will we get to hear a full album by Miss Ina?

Solas & E-Vo ft Daisy Spratt - Stars & Space

A subgenre seems to crossover as soon as a pop artist achieves a Top 40 hit with the sound.  Before that happens, someone in the dance world needs to demonstrate this new sound is compatible with accessible pop melodies.  This is exactly what Solas & E-Vo have done with Future Bass.  The sound is hard to describe, with otherworldly synths contrasted with unconventional sonic textures that intersect with intense bass-led melodies.  The original track is strong on its own, and enlisting singer Daisy Spray just takes it over the top.  Her unique voice fits the vibe perfectly. Don’t be surprised if Rihanna or Sia jump on the future bass train really soon- it's waiting for that next giant leap into the mainstream.

Sin Fang ft Jonsi - Candyland - [MORR MUSIC]

Future bass and future house are going well, so how about future R&B (or, as the blogs call it, PBR&B)? The sound is basically chilled-out trap, with random noises in the background and warped vocal effects supporting soulful lead vocals.  With Jonsi of Sigur Ros on vocal, “Candyland” is the first taste of Sin Fang’s forthcoming ‘Spaceland’ album.  You can hear the progression from Sin’s previous sublime and airy tracks with the addition of the more aggressive backbeats, but still keeping his vibe firmly in place. With the insane digital manipulation, the video has the feel of a classic Bjork visual masterpiece. Due for release in September, ‘Candyland’ will be one to watch for.

Will Sparks & Luciana - Stay Up Till The Mornin - [BOURNE RECORDINGS]

That Luciana sounds great on a bounce track is no surprise.  Think back to her last collab with Will Sparks, “Sick Like That,” or any of the hard EDM tracks she has vocalized over the past few years- the grit and roughness of her vocal delivery (talk/sing) fits perfectly.  What makes “Stay Up Till the Mornin’” singular is the way she doubletimes her robotic flow to change the melody in the b-line of each verse. Add to that the way she affects an Azealia Banksian flow to build the bridge, and we hear Luciana's talents on full display, like a chameleon that changes to match her surroundings.  By the way, if you ever get a chance to see Luciana perform live, go.

Sultan + Shepard ft Gia - Love Me Crazy - [ARMADA]

As we have been inundated with trop pop this summer, it is nice to hear a different kind of tropical dance music. Infusing deep house with reggae is an unexpected and brilliant move from Sultan + Shepard.  Although the song is at 126 bpm, the verse and chorus slow down the beat, giving it a unique hybrid feel.  Gia’s vocal fits perfectly, floating above the beat with an airy exotic tone.  “Love Me Crazy” doesn’t sound like anything S+S have done before, but if you imagine what a summer song from them would sound like, reggae house just about makes sense.
