2015 was a big year for Super 8 and Tab. The Finnish Duo of Miika Eloranta and Janne Mansnerus toured with
Above & Beyond and unleashed their massive track “Komorebi.” As their remix of
Cosmic Gate &
Jes dominated the trance world, remixes from their brilliant 2014 album Unified (“Patience,” “Clairvoyant,” and “Aika”) brought their music to a whole new audience. With pure trance music making a comeback, watch for them to lead the charge.
RS: Hey guys how are you doing today?
Tab: Very good, thank you.
Super8: Really good.
RS: You guys are really known for trance, would you consider yourself purists?
Tab: I believe so.
Super8: I don’t know about purists but I think that we still have a trance state of mind and we love all of the nice harmonies, big chords and nice melodies.
RS: I hear that after EDM and after house it is going to go back to trance, are you sensing that also?
Tab: Yes I believe so, we have noticed since touring the US that more and more people are attracted to trance music. I don’t know if it is going to be trance but elements from trance are going to have an influence on everything.
Super8: That is not bad news.
RS: I agree with you, I love my trance and I am old school. Right now you are on tour Above and Beyond, how is that going?
Tab: It is always a lot of fun to play because there are so many Anjunabeats fans around; it is like a big family gathering.
RS: On your last album I noticed that you did a lot of work with certain vocalists, what is it about Julia Thompson that makes her voice work so well for you?
Super8: I don’t know if it is just the voice. We always take Julia to our studio in Finland and we have such a good time and it is so easy to work with her. I think that it is a mental thing along with the vocal thing.
RS: Is there a sound of Finland, like a Finnish music sound?
Tab: I think that it is melancholy no matter what kind of genre it is, I think that is the Finnish sound.
Super8: Especially in the old days, I don’t think that they knew about the major chord, it was all minor. Now the times are changing a bit but that is where the melancholy sound comes from.
RS: After a gig which hurts more- your ears from the loud music or your eyes from all those camera phones.
Super8: My ankles from jumping!
Tab: I don’t know, I can’t beat that but everything hurts!
Super8: You know it was a good gig if everything hurts.
RS: If you could go back to when you were 18 and give yourself some advice what you say to yourself?
Super8: Be patient and work hard.
Tab: I would say that too but not chasing that too much, it has been a great journey so far so put your heart into everything and do what you love.
RS: I love that. What would you guys like to say to all of your fans out there watching?
Tab: Thanks to everyone who came to see us at our gigs. Check out our website www.super8andtab.com for when we will be back in the US, it’s been amazing to be here. ?
