The ClubPlanet Interview: Litchfield

The ClubPlanet Interview: Litchfield

by DJ Ron Slomowicz

Following in the footsteps of Cash Cash, the trio of Litchfield are transitioning from the rock world to the EDM world.  The trio of Adam, Mario, and Benjie mash together live rock band sounds with big room EDM beats.  Their debut track “Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll”  is a perfect mix of Green Day and LMFAO.  Coming off the Vans Warped tour, they invaded Miami and made a massive debut at the Ultra Music Fest.

RS: You just came off of the Warp Tour. How are dance fans different from rock fans?
Adam: I’d definitely say the energy level, everyone is just here to party and keep it going. With the rock scene people are rocking but this scene is where it’s at, people love it and we love it. The difference is just the high energy.
Mario: Yeah the high energy and it's fun. Rock and roll and dance is all the same to us, at the end of the day it’s just music and we love having fun and being out here making noise.
Benjie: It’s just good vibes all around and we can’t get enough of it.

RS: When the three of you are in the studio working on your music what part do each of you do?
Adam: We actually all do a little bit of everything; we are musicians at heart and it’s not just one key board or drum or anything like that. One day I might have a guitar the next day Mario might be on the drums. Mario: We all do a little bit of everything, Ben plays drums, I play guitar, we sing and we get on the decks. We all kind of just mess around, we are all producers.

RS: What is your first single called?
Adam: “Sex, Drugs & Rock N' Roll”

RS: Sounds about right! Is there a video coming for it?
Mario: Yes there is a video coming for it, it is in post-production. It is coming soon but we are not exactly sure on the release date but keep your eyes open.
Adam: It’s going to be pretty awesome; we shot it in the Bay Area in San Francisco. Just fucking party man, it’s a lot of fun.

RS: Total California boys! So you are playing at Ultra for the first time, what are you expecting from the crowd?
Mario: We are expecting the wild factor because we have kept secret everything that we have been working on. It is a little bit of a transition but it’s just us morphing into who we really are and what we represent.
Benjie: We are trying to bring a lot of energy and we just want to see the crowd interact with us. We are really strong believers that as artists on stage performing music we should literally be bringing more energy than anyone out in the crowd so we just want to see that interaction. We want to help people kind of step it up per se.
Adam: We just want to rage as hard as everyone else out there in the crowd.

RS: So I hear that Dancing Astronaut is really behind you guys, how did that happen?
Mario: It is just one of those things where our paths crossed and they liked us and we liked what they represented and we just wanted to team up.
Adam: We are really grateful for everything that they are doing for us. We teamed up with them and they are actually one of our sponsors and we have their logo on the side of our bus. It has been awesome, we just love working together with other people and we are always open to cross promoting in the industry.

RS: You have this tour bus, is there going to be a big tour this summer?
Mario: Oh yea, it’s all in the works right now. We are not 100% sure exactly what is going to happen but we will be on the road, hands down we are ready to hit the pavement and not stop.

RS: How are y’all able to keep your sanity and your health going from city to city every week?
Adam: A lot of mediation for me, I have to keep my mind clear and mediate every morning.
Benjie: We try to stay fit, we like going for bike rides and other stuff like that and we try to eat healthy.
Mario: A lot of raisins and nuts in the morning, that’s all.

RS: I know that you are from California but that sounded real southern! At the end of the night when you are finished with your set which hurts more- your ears from all the loud music or your eyes from all the flashes?
Mario: Probably my ears because we like to just go as loud as we can till the speakers are just pumping, we love the flashes from the camera but it’s all about the music for us.

RS: When you are on stage are you playing instruments or is it like a DJ thing?
Adam: We are a live band; we are trying to do the whole LDM thing, live dance music, where we incorporate real drums and we have the decks in there as well and play guitar. We just love music and we think that rock and roll is the missing element in EDM and we are trying to bring that back and have that rock show.

RS: If you could go back to when you were 18 and give yourself some advice what would you say to yourself?
Mario: I would say slow down, breathe in and let it out and enjoy this experience. Take everything in that you can because this is all about the experience.
Benjie: Pretty much the same thing, its all about the experience and just be true to yourself and follow your heart and follow the music.
Adam: Keep following your dreams, don’t ever stop and just keep pressing on and don’t ever slow down.

RS: What would you guys like to say to all of your new fans out there watching?
Mario: First of all we would like to say that if it wasn’t for you guys we wouldn’t even be here, thank you guys so much. We are all in this together and we hope that you guys join us and come fucking party with us.
