2014 is quickly coming to close and there are only 3 episodes left this year for #CPR! As a programming note, mark your calendars for a special date: 12.26.14
which will be not only Episode 50, but a special 3 HOUR, BEST OF 2014
show to showcase the best 100 TRACKS
as heard on #CPR this year. You do not want to miss this!
For today's Episode 48 of ClubPlanet Radio not only are we joined by Swedish DJ duo Qulinez
, but they also sat down to answer some questions for us! Before we get to the mixshow, check out what the guys had to say.
Clubplanet Interview with Qulinez:
MB: Thanks for taking a few minutes to speak with us! Let's start at the beginning, how did you two meet and decide to start working together on music?
Q: We met each other through a close friend 12 years ago. We talked about music and realized that we both have the same passion for it and very similar tastes. So we started to make tracks together and here we are!
MB: The name Qulinez is definitely unique, how did you come up with it?
Q: We took a random name and decided to go with it. But we realized pretty soon that it was hard for people to pronounce it. It's pronounced "Que-Lines." Either way, the name stuck and we like it.
MB: Your breakout hit for sure was "Troll" which is almost 3 years old now. Can you talk about what it was like to experience such world wide success at that time? I remember that track was being played by everyone!
Q: It was amazing. We remember it so well. It was really fun to see all the big DJs play the track and we think it's the reason we have come this far. We come from a small town and we've had the chance to play in a lot of different countries. It's amazing to have seen the world the way we have.
MB: Let's talk about the studio for the producers out there. What software are you guys using and are there any specific plug-ins or synths that you are really using/recommend?
Q: We use FL Studio because we started to produce in that program. We thought it was an easy software to use. There's a lot of good plug-ins out there but we like Massive and Sylenth!
MB: What is your favorite show/festival you have played thus far in your careers and what is the show/festival that you have not played yet that you most look forward to playing (hopefully in 2015!)?
Q: There's a lot of big festivals that we love! Tomorrowland, Creamfields and Belsonic are a few of them. We really want to play at EDC in Las Vegas and Coachella!
MB: Here on ClubPlanet Radio we are really digging your last 2 productions (a remix of Francesco Yates "Call" on Atlantic Records and an original production "Pegasus" on CR2) and feature huge melodic synths. Should we expect more productions in this same style in 2015 from you?
Q: We don't know if we are gonna release some new tracks in the same style because we love to change styles and try new things all the time. For us, changing it up and keeping things unique is important. We are all about surprising people and experimenting.
MB: Your next release comes out this Monday December 15th entitled "Let's Rock" on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak label. Tell us a bit about this record and why did you choose Aoki's label for it's release?
Q: It's a quite heavy track with Melbourne bounce influences. We really love this track because it's a proper banger with our own unique twist. Dim Mak is a really good label and they work hard for their artists. Steve Aoki is an awesome person who cares about pushing the limits of electronic music, he's always someone we've looked up to. So for us it made a lot of sense to work with Steve and his team.
MB: You are both from Sweden, do you still reside and spend most of your time there?
Q: Yes, we still live here. We live in a small town are really like running into friends and family all the time. Over the past few months, we've spent as much time as we could in the studio working on new records and what you're seeing now is some of those records start to come out.
MB: Finally, when you are not working on music or touring, what do you like to do with your free time?
Q: We love to do music on our free time too! It's not a job it's a way of life. So we need to say music, friends and just chill.
Thanks to Qulinez for chatting with #CPR, before we get to their guest mix, here are some highlights of today's show...
Gorgon City ft Jennifer Hudson - Go All Night (Erick Morillo Club Mix) [VIRGIN/EMI]
I think it's safe to say that after dealing with his demons, Erick Morillo is BACK! And along with Erick (as usually follows) is groovy, funky, soulful and straight up house music. The track features a dream team of artists with 2014 house darlings Gorgon City, vocalist Jennifer Hudson and Erick on remixing duties.
Michael Calfan - Treasured Soul [SPINNIN]
Michael is making the process of compiling a "best of 2014" show very difficult as the man continues to release top notch tracks here in the month of December! Following "Prelude", "Treasured Soul" borders on the line between 'tropical house' with melodic plucks and classic house music with a grooving bass line to keep you moving. The French man is finishing up 2014 with a flourish.
Tom Swoon & Stadiumx ft Rico & Miella - Ghost [PROTOCOL]
Swoon and Stadiumx (the 'big room' alias for producers Muzzaik) join up with Rico & Miella for this anthemic vocal tune "Ghost" on Nicky Romero's Protocol Recordings. The male vocal is accompanied by the huge lead keys and synths that we come to expect from Tom's tracks. This is one that brings the goosebumps for sure.
CPR TUNE OF THE WEEK
Kolsch ft Troels Abrahamsen - All That Matters (Kryder Remix) [AXTONE]
As we close 2014, one of my biggest tasks with compiling the Best of 2014 show is to try and not use every release that Kryder has put out this year, and he is making that VERY difficult! He returns with this long-awaited ID from Axwell's sets which is actually a departure (pun intended) from his big room anthems and has more of a feel with the vocal. Although he still manages to keep the groove and the energy that are staples of his productions, this one hits you right in the feelz, in all the right ways.
Lush & Simon - Stellar [FREE DOWNLOAD]
Lush & Simon passed along this tune they intend to give away very soon as a Free Download to thank their fans for a great year. The track features some bright plucks leading to a massive build which drops into Lush & Simon's non stop energy vibes. If you are a fan of the boys from Italy, you will dig this one for sure.
