A roundup of great electro, nu-disco, future beats, and trop house tracks.

Don Diablo - "Generations" - [SIZE]

"Generations" seems like the fitting end to a strong year of releases from Dutchman Don Diablo.  In addition to his electro/EDM releases ("Back to Life," "King Cobra," and "Black Mask"), he has been incorporating classic house sounds with all of his "Time" releases ("Back in Time," "Anytime," "Knighttime"). For his debut release on Steve Angello's Size records, Don goes a touch deeper and blends big room progressive elements with classic piano house hooks.  It works really well together, and singer Roses Gabor nails a modern take on diva vocals, much like she did on the trippy "Devileye" with We Are Shining. Inspirational and uplifting lyrics like those in "Generations" (and Alesso/Tove Lo "Heroes") are a great soundtrack as you begin to think about your New Year's resolution.

Dart Party - "Going My Way" - [CRAZY HEART]

Genres collide and that's a good thing.  We are all in a retro flashback mode with '90s house influencing everyone.  Leave it to a New Yorker to just mash everything together for something different yet familiar.  "Going My Way" is lo-fi that sounds hi-fi, if that makes any sense. It's as if Le Youth, The White N3rd, and Kygo got in the studio together and decided to combine all their sample banks together.   Elements of trop house, synth-pop, nu-disco, glam, and noise blend together into something that is truly creative.  Check out Daft Party's Soundcloud page, they are someone special and worth following.

Kygo ft Conrad - "Firestone" - [ULTRA]

It's hard to believe that this is the debut single from Norwegian producer Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll.  Better known as Kygo, his remixes of everyone from Marvin Gaye to Syn Cole and m83 have been played over 100 million times and led to major festival gigs (even replacing Avicii at Tomorrow World). "Firestone" is everything you would expect, a chilled out trop house track sounding much like a 2014 lounge mix of Avicii's early stadium releases.  Australian singer Conrad adds an urgency with a real emotional vocal performance.  Expect a big push on Kygo in the new year, he might just be the next Avicii.  In the meantime, be sure to check out Glastrophobe as well for another great trop house producer.

3lau ft Luciana - "We Came to Bang" - [MUSICAL FREEDOM]

As a vocalist, Luciana has two distinct personalities.  There is the raspy, aggressive, dirty party girl who screams over hard electro beats and the seductive siren who sings over progressive EDM. "We Came to Bang" is one of those rare tracks where the two blend together.  Starting like a  progressive anthem, Luciana sings in a pretty tone, similar to her track "Arcadia" with Hardwell & Joey Dale.  Then, just as she sings "start of something new," the beats increase in intensity and the song goes full-on banger with Luciana switching to her more aggressive voice. I guess we should expect that in a song called "We Came to Bang."   Even more surprising is the drop after the second build, which goes to an unexpectedly minimal glitchy and stuttering kick loop.  It manages to be both incredibly disorienting and quite creative.  Speaking of disorienting, the video matches the song perfectly by starting as what appears to be a typical pretty cheerleaders in locker room peepshow and turning into a violent and bloody death match between furry animal mascots. Yes, it is as strange as it sounds.  In case you are wondering, the winner in the rabbit costume is Justin, aka 3lau.

Sander Kleinenberg ft Gwen McCrae - "Can You Feel It" - [SPINNIN]

Has Spinnin bought the rights to the entire Gwen McCrae publishing catalog?   Just two weeks ago, Alex Aark & Meron reworked "Keep the Fire Burnin" for their disco house stomper "Aint No Way."   Now, Sander Kleinenberg is continuing the disco journey that started from "We-R-Superstars" with another Gwen McCrae sample for "Can You Feel It."  Though this really isn't disco, it's more like a deep piano house intro added to an Oliver Heldens track.  Yes,  it's pretty formulaic, the song is a complete change in sound from Sander's previous work and is actually a really fun modern take on an old school-sounding diva vocal.   As for the source of the vocal sample it , I can't place it, even after spending an hour searching online.  If any of y'all know, please do fill us in...
