Here's the best of the week in dance music news and headlines - our condensed soup edition:
10) Axwell to Donate Proceeds From November 21st Show In Manila To Typhoon Victims
Sad, but true, here in the U.S. we heard more about Hurricane Sandy than the 'Super Typhoon' that struck the Philippines last week. With winds over 200 MPH, it is being called one of the most powerful storms ever recorded, killing almost 4,000 people to date. In similar fashion to Swedish House Mafia's Black Tie Rave event to benefit Hurricane Sandy, Axwell is donating the proceeds of his November 21st performance in Manila to the victims of the terrible disaster. The promoters for the show have also agreed to donate the proceeds to disaster aid charities.
9) Nero's New Album Set For 2014, "Sorry To Leave You In The Dark"
On Tuesday, Nero’s Facebook page (which had been dormant since May) came to life with a simple message: “Sorry to have left you in the dark for so long. The 2nd album is coming 2014. Announcements soon.” The duo left this moody 28-minute loop ominously on their Soundcloud page, making us over at Club Planet seethe with excitement.
8) Happy Birthday to both Dirty South and Tommy Trash! (November 15) Love ya guys!
Check out the latest releases from both artists below!
7) Flavor Of The Week: Lorde - Royals (TyDi Rework)
Don't let this little gem slip by you. TyDi gives the indie-pop hit a feel-good, melodic rework. Check it out.
6) Man Who Threw His Hands Up Too Early For A Drop Is Set To Sue Nightclub For ‘Emotional Distress’
I Throw My Hands Up In The Air Sometimes…
For anyone that doesn't know 'Wunderground'....don't believe everything you read on the Internet. Wunderground can put together a great satire though ;)
5) Deadmau5 Says Farewell To Twitter
Deadmau5, one of our favorite Twitter accounts at Club Planet, signed off this week. Some artists' social media platforms are run by their management, but what made Joel Zimmerman's account so entertaining was the fact that it was run by himself. Dropping Twitter for Soundcloud, Joel cited "reasons of my own" and a shift in focus towards his future tracks for discontinuing his Twitter account: “I’ll continue to upload new music to my Soundcloud, and the Twitter account will point you in the right direction for the most recent happenings… but enough’s enough with living on Twitter.” What appears to be a parting gift, the mau5 posted seven new tracks, each one corresponding to the Seven Deadly Sins up on his SoundCloud page, all of which are downloadable.
Even though Zimmerman asserts that his falling out with Twitter has absolutely nothing to do with the following, among a couple of other recent Twitter brawls, we beg to differ.
4) Porter Robinson Signs With Astralwerks/Virgin Music EMI
'I Like The Way You Werk It'
Being called "one of the most talented producers of his generation," Porter Robinson's debut album is nearing completion and will be released on Astralwerks as revealed yesterday. Porter cited Astralwerks’ non-EDM experience as one of his reasons for signing. Expected to drop towards the beginning of the new year, Porter says the LP is "meant to be listening music. It’s not a party record at all.” Robinson promises a richly musical sound on his album, citing influences like M83, Sleigh Bells and his top two favs, Daft Punk and Kanye West. (Via Billboard)

2) Axwell and Tiesto To Perform At 2014 X-Games
On January 25 and 26, the 2014 Winter X Games will take over Aspen, Colorado, and this year, featuring closing sets from crowd favorites Axwell and Tiesto. Last year, the X Games debuted their “X Games MUSIC Presents” concert series, an effort to expand the X Games as a lifestyle brand, with free concerts from the likes of Major Lazer, Calvin Harris, and Zedd.
ESPN announced that downtown Aspen’s Wagner Park will see Matt and Kim and Phoenix perform on Saturday, January 25 before Axwell and Tiesto take over the stage on Sunday the 26th. Both concerts will be held in the afternoon, with Axwell set to go on at 4:00PM and Tiesto to follow at 5:15PM. Fans can purchase tickets for only $30 dollars, while VIP accommodations, such as food and beverage service and heated platform viewing, are available for $150.1) We Are Friends Vol. 2 Finally Released
The entire compilation is simply incredible. Enjoy friends.
