Avicii Voices His Concern For The Furture Of EDM
by Mikey Lavery
They say that all good things come to an end and it has been looking like we may be getting closer and closer to that point where the EDM sound is concerned; well that is if you believe what Avicii has to say about it.
There have many people behind the scenes who have being predicting that the whole EDM movement that turned the U.S. dance music scene in to a multi billion dollar industry four years ago is starting to implode. With music styles such as techno, deep house and disco becoming more and more popular on dancefloors across the country, there is certainly a change in the musical winds and with that, there are more DJs coming and making their voices heard on the matter.
This week, Avicii stated in an interview with The Guardian newspaper that he also thinks the future is bleak for the whole EDM movement. ”House music is losing all its melody as it becomes more about how dirty the drop is and how energetic it is. It loses touch with what music really is," he goes on to say, "It’s gotten to a point where everything sounds the same.” We're guessing he's forgotten about "Levels."
He talks about the lack of creativity in the scene being it's downfall and that ”there is no longevity in what’s happening at the moment." Discussing the difference between the scene in Europe, namely Ibiza, and the U.S. scene, he says, “Ibiza is about passion for music, Vegas doesn’t feel real. It’s a product.” He's obviously forgetting that it was the U.S. clubbing community who made him a multimillionaire, Global DJing phenomenon by paying him obscene amounts of money for his "product."
Yes, you heard that right and yes, that was "irony" slapping you across the face. The guy who struck a deal to be the face of Ralf Lauren -- and have the clothing brand feature heavily in all his videos -- as well as being a regular fixture in the city he's so quick to criticize, feels like the scene is about to burst as it's not "real" enough.
We'll see if he still thinks that when he plays the world famous Hollywood Bowl next month and picks up his bumper paycheck.
