Village Underground, The -
The rumor is true. The new Village Underground (formerly Rumor) is the place to see and be seen. The swanky three-area bar has everything you could want in an NYC night out experience. A dark entry way leads you into a room that keeps the historic vibe of Greenwich Village alive, complete with photographs and paintings from the 1950s and on. The vintage lighting and wooden seats give the venue a comfy vibe, while the back, masked by a curtain, holds a lounge area with more antiques to tickle your imagination. Downstairs usually holds special events with bottle service and a dance floor. And although The Village Underground is set off from the Bleeker tourist strip, NYU students, scenesters-wannabes and the occasional B&T crowd dish out $10-20 for cover just to squeeze their way in to one of the newest downtown "it" spots.
