UPstairs at Spring - Known for pairing hip lounges with hit restaurants, restaurateur Jonathan Morr (BondSt, APT, Republic) recently launched UPstairs Spring above his new restaurant 325 Spring Street in west Soho. Destined to become the decadent meeting place for New York’s young and hip, the lounge has already hosted actor Paul Rudd, fashion designer Cynthia Rowley and bands the Beastie Boys and The White Stripes. One of the nation’s hottest designers, Jim Walrod, decided to take a radically different approach to the lounge. “With the lounge, I wanted to create a completely adult room, where sexuality is not hinted at but embraced,” he says. This is most evident with the lounge’s gorgeous hand-painted murals, which depict 16th century frolickers in the buff. Walrod decorated the lounge with vintage chairs and sofas, fashioned in different fabrics and prints from the 1930s through the 1960s. The space has a rich yet laid back feel, where guests can comfortably lounge while enjoying a cocktail and a light bite with friends.
