Anchovies - Buckets of red sauce on checked table clothes haunt our dreams. And we can think of nowhere better in Boston to get a good pasta fix than Anchovies. This South End staple has been shoveling out the grub at rock-bottom prices forever. We guess they make their margins on volume – the portions are truly gargantuan.
Even if the decor and menu are 1950’s Goodfella, the crowd is as up-to-date as can be – gay, straight, white, black, old, and young. Just like the South End neighborhood that Anchovies calls home. A good way to spend an early afternoon is to order up a martini and a personal pizza and watch the crowd go by. Another, perhaps better, way is to descend on Anchovies with a huge crew and order up a storm.
