Goose Island Brewery -
Chicago might be second city to New York, but they don’t have Goose Island beer. 13 beers are on tap that vary by season, including Naughty Goose, which won a gold medal at the 2004 Great American Beer Festival, and Old Abernation Barley Wine, which checks in at 8.8 percent alcohol by volume. Under-age? Go for Goose Island sodas; root beer, diet root beer, orange cream and grape. Little-known fact: breweries also serve food! Goose Island's chicken wings and chicken tenders won awards at Wingfest, and the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, fish and chips and chili are just as delish. Get a look at the big brew tanks through the window by the entrance. For $5, the 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon brewery tours provide an even better look. A brewer gives the lowdown on all your burning questions about how Goose Island brews their beer, including how various beers taste; there’s a tasting session afterwards.
