Deja Vu -
No, it’s not a strip joint; but rather, Lincoln Park’s late-night bi-level Hip Hop haven—solely attracting urbanites. Merging Art Deco décor with 70s-rock chic, the Vu offers glitzy bottle service, as well as nightly steal-worthy drink specials. The enlarged polished bar (clad with glazed female statuettes), pool table, Golden Tee, plasmas, and four tops occupies the casual downstairs. The upstairs space, however, achieves VIP status. An Art Deco bar leads to two roomy lounges furnished with overstuffed- mismatched sofas, red-painted walls with brown wood paneling, and red-crushed-velvet drapes adorned with blue trim. VJ Matty and Johnny Deuce attain the psyche of music with their video mixing, combining Hip Hop and House with music videos and live footage of club-goers. So, why are the walls adorned with the several photos and prints of famed punk rockers? Is the Vu suffering from a bit of an identity crisis? Why, no. Despite its contradictions, Déjà Vu definitely remains Chicago’s premier Hip Hop haunt.
