Tucked behind an elongated cobblestone alleyway, amongst the Gold Coasts’ bustling streets, dwells an intimate gem of a jazz club. Since opening 35-years ago, Backroom continues to enchant not only the chicly-dressed regulars and out-of-towners, but also—on occasion—the famous folk. Once reaching the dimly-lit venue, an exposed brick hallway leads to a steep spiral staircase where the upstairs bar and balconied-lounge overlook the quaint, lively stage. Serving their signature Jazz martini and Romeo Julieta cigar, the smoky downstairs bar elaborately extends until reaching several small candle-lit tables and chairs. The stage, emblazed with an enormous diamond-shaped sculpture of trumpets, occupies the remainder of this romantic joint. An enlarged celebratory mural of jazz musicians with cocktailing fans reflects the atmosphere, as jazz-vibe décor and attitude permeate throughout the locale. Popular fuse-jazz band, Detour Jazz Funk, jams-out, faithfully amusing and engaging the crowd. This charming haunt epitomizes the perfect spot to entertain a group of friends, a significant other, or even your parents.
