P.S.1 - PS 1 is one of the outer boroughs' most recognized contemporary art galleries and is in fact one of the preeminent contemporary art galleries in New York City. Noted former artists who have shown at the gallery have included Mexican Gabriel Orozco, Bruce Nauman, Valie Export, Joan Jonas, Mario Merz and Louise Bourgeois. Founded by the highly respected Alanna Heiss several years ago, PS 1 has continued on its mission of high lighting the work of the most talented up and coming visual artists. Two years ago, the gallery took a typically adventurous approach by commencing the annual Warm Up Series, an outdoor event that features a weekly line up of top turntablists from July to September. In years past such respected DJ's as Dimitri from Paris, Lo-Ki and Andrea Parker have all played at PS 1's outdoor urban garden festival. The crowd tends to be everything from artsy Long Island City and Williamsburg to downtown Manhattan hip and the atmosphere is always friendly and mellow.If you are looking for an outdoor Saturday of great music without the muscle bound chests and roller blades of Central Park, this just might be your answer.
