Located on the cutest street in Queens, Austin Street (vis a vis a movie theatre and Barnes and Nobles) Piu Bello offers some of the most astonishing ice-cream creations and sundaes in NYC’s largest borough. The reason why Austin Street area did not transform into a Williamsburg-like freak yet is the same reason why this low-key café/restaurant is not filled with big fat crowds—not that many people know about it. After a shopping spree in one of the small, locally owned boutiques or seeing a movie, teenagers and local families (with children…yikes) flock at Piu Bello creating a picture of a perfect Sunday idyll—especially when the large and colorful sundaes with dazzling add-ons come into play. The service might get slow, but your eyes will spin once the waitress finally puts a Mt. Everest-like frozen treat in front of you. Though a $10 price average might seem a bit exaggerated for ice-cream; trust me, after finishing that portion you can skip dinner. And supper. And then breakfast.
