Ritz Lounge, The - When a gay bar called The Ritz opens near the theatre district one imagines a hoary crowd of men speaking Queen’s English and sporting monocles and imperial-style mustaches as they sip brandy and discuss news of the Commonwealth. Unfortunately this is not the case here on West 46th Street under the green awning that marks the entrance to Hell’s Kitchen’s newest gay venture. The actual crowd at the Ritz is eclectic and strikingly unassuming, most apparent in the back room where live DJs spin most nights of the week and everyone is keen to let their hair down and dance. The upstairs lounge seems rife with ulterior motives while the heavy imbiber will find comfort and convenience in the large, easily accessible downstairs bar and its attentive staff.
