Grand, The - Since The Grand moved into the former Au Bar space, Midtown and Upper East Side socialites no longer need to venture to West Chelsea to show off their bling and dance moves. The redone subterranean lair aims for the spirit of downtown’s lounges, but the minimalist décor and boxy black room lack personality. Grab cocktails from one of three granite bars in the main room while the more privileged party on the red leather couches in the center of the room (offset by velvet ropes & plants), on the suede banquettes to the side, or in the sleek VIP room. A DJ supplies a decent roster of Top 40 and 80’s, but you’ll have to make do with the sparse clearing below his deck acting as the dance floor.
