Bookmarks - Located on the fourteenth floor of the Library Hotel in a semi-rectangular space bookended by glassed atria and a rooftop garden, Bookmarks has an odd allure. With its wicker chairs, fireplace, and dark wood benches, the space seems like it would be perfectly appropriate somewhere in Connecticut with J.Crew clothing strewn around and boating shoes stacked neatly in a corner. It's not for everyone; Bookmarks tends to attract an older and after-work crowd, but the place has an earnestness seldom found in New York. The specialty cocktails are tasty, sensible and reasonably priced, with "sensible" being perhaps the greatest compliment one can offer anything in this city. Bookmarks is not the best place to kick back and let loose with friends, but it does make for an ideal escape. Like all hotel bars, anonymity is easily found here, in a setting that is warm and slightly domestic.
