230 Fifth New York, Venue Description

230 Fifth - '230 FIFTH,' an incredible new upscale venue on Fifth Avenue and 27th Street in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. The venue (in a Landmarked building) consists of two floors with 8,000 square feet of enclosed space on the Penthouse floor and a magnificantly landscaped 14,000 square foot Penthouse Rooftop Garden with sweeping views of all of Manhattan, the Hudson and East Rivers. Not only is the Rooftop Garden Bar at '230 FIFTH' the largest in Manhattan, it exceeds in size almost all other outdoor rooftop bars combined. This world class designed venue also includes a very large, fully enclosed Penthouse bar and lounge, a 50 seat upscale restaurant, as well as the ability to have a seated dinner for from 25 people up to 600 people in the enclosed space and up to 600 more on the Penthouse Rooftop Garden, or cocktail receptions for anywhere from 25 people to up to 1,200 people. The person behind this venue is Steven Greenberg, one of New York's best known nightlife entrepreneurs, who, among other things, previously owned or co-owned The Palladium, Roxy and The Cobalt Club in the legendary Gramercy Park Hotel, a hotel he controlled.

RACIST
Please if you are African american avoid this place, I have never been so degraded in my life, me and my friends get there on saturday night looking to have some fun, the line was moving fairly quickly once it got to our turn the bouncer plainly told us if we were not getting a bottle we can not go in , mind you every one that walked in ahead of us were white and got in with no problem, he told us there was no reason and that we should step out of the line.please avoid.

Racist bouncer
The bouncer (east european dude with a ponytail) is a racist bastard. He should be s#*! -canned and deported back to nazi germany, or wherever the f@#% he came from. Certainly does not belong in new york city. Kills the night, ruins the bar. Please avoid.

Manager
Dear Candy Lounge,
I am the manager of a new security company Big Boy Security (http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/sks/1220875420 .html). As stated on our post we have numerous skilled and experienced bouncers of formidable size and experience. We are currently looking for new contracts. If you would like to do business with us I would take the burden of scheduling all of the security for your venue never leaving you in a bind looking for a bouncer at the last second. Be assured that all of my bouncers are well qualified and certified. Please contact me back as soon as possible, I think this is a great opportunity for both of us.
Sincerely,
Joseph Evans
Big Boy Security

Doorman = Racist and Violent
I never realized that this place was racist until I came with my black friend. Doorman looked at my friend (who- p.s.- looks like a model) and said "it's not happening." I proceeded to call the doorman out saying, "Excuse me but are you racist??" And he didn't know how to answer. Disgusting. I proceeded to get very angry about this and the DOORMAN said to me (a girl)- "Don't touch me or I will f@#% SLAP YOU!" Mind you I had not laid a finger on him. Whoa.. a nobody doorman who is racist and violent. Not recommended.

Scammed by the RACIST doorman
First I would like to mention that I have been to 230 Fifth before for business/networking events. Several of my friends have also been to the same location and had never had any problem and in fact, loved the layout and space. HOWEVER, my experience at 230 this past Friday (Halloween night) was enough to make me write this review. About 10 of my friends had gotten there early (9pm-ish) and got in no problem. They were all cute Asian girls & a few Asian guys. Since there was no cover that night & a costume requirement, they got in free of charge & were not even asked about bottle service. While inside they decided to get a table anyway &experienced no problems. I had arrived with my bf & other friends shortly after 11pm. The line to get in was not long & people were getting in quickly with no problem, until it got to our group. We had 5 people (asians & blacks). So the doorman wearing a corny Vampire costume takes one look at us & asks if we are on the guestlist which we said no to (remember, my other friends got in no problem earlier & without being on a guestlist). Then doorBOY took us out of the line & said we couldn't get in unless we got a table ($250). I explained to doorBOY that we already had friends inside with tables waiting for us, but he did not budge. I watched as he let EVERYONE else in after us (whites, asians...no blacks, hmm). I thought it was all in my imagination but I asked every single group that went on line if they were on the guestlist & they said no. But I watched as doorBOY let in group after group & he didn't even ask them if they were on a guestlist!! WTF! We finally had to get a table but by that point 2 other friends came & then we found out they would only let us in (not letting in the 3 of the original group who were all black). They finally let them in too but tried to charge a 2nd bottle for the 3 people. We convinced them to not charge a 2nd bottle & allowed the 3 people to STAND near our table. They ran a scam on us! Never again. I see all these other reviews online and it only confirms that this is a HORRIBLE place to go to. Take your $$ somewhere else.

horrible service
FOr a place that says on their website,

"We do not encourage 'bottle service' since all of our guests are welcome on an equal basis. We are pleased, however, to accommodate those guests who wish to have priority admission and priority table seating through a 'bottle service' request: One bottle of liquor for each six guests or one bottle of champagne for each four guests.

Bull**it....they were only allowing people who bought at least 2 bottles in after 1145...(who gets to a club before 12 in the city?) and then when you got up there the place was basically empty.

the bouncers were obnoxious and rude. The manager, STeve, was an a$$hole. The waiter took our bottles, which were half full, in the middle of the night and only returned it to us, after we complained. I would not step foot in this place ever again. The view was pretty was the service, the food and drinks was horrible...

Racism is alive and well at this spot!
Unfortunately, I had my first experience with discrimination at this club! My friends and I, (Who might I add are very intelligent as well as progressive beautiful African American young women) were looking to spend a night out for our friends birthday. After waiting on the line for about 10min, we made it to the front when the Bouncer/Security asked us if we had a reservation, to which we replied no. He then proceeded to tell us to step aside in which he continued to let groups of people in and he did not ask if THEY had a reservation. Of course they were white. We approached another bouncer with our concern and he confirmed that we were right in our assumptions that we did not get in because we were not the right "Color". They should be ashamed of themselves. DON'T GO TO THIS CLUB especially if your looking for diversity!
