Whym - From the people who brought you Eatery, the Hell's Kitchen comfort food depot, comes Whym, the latest in upscale "New American comfort-fusion." Just up the street from its sister restaurant, Whym's small Columbus Circle location attracts tourists and pre-theatre crowds as well as local business people and neighborhood foodies. In other words, it's mostly an "over 35" scene. Cocktails like the Passion Fruit Caipirinha are not for the timid, nor is the signature Whymsy, a mix of Chambord, Ciroc Grape Vodka and champagne. The restaurant is lined with black tables and a banquette sofa with booths toward the back, all in minimalist style accented by modern crystal chandelier light fixtures. Although somewhat charming, the overall effect is a bit bland and generic. And while this genre-mixing wonder is sure to please the palate, Whym’s credentials as a nightspot are lacking due to the early closing time.
