Mixville -
Mixville, located inside Silver Lake’s Edendale Grill restaurant, reminds its patrons that Los Angeles does have a history, despite appearances. Named after western legend Tom Mix, the bar and grill are down the street from where some of LA’s earliest movie studios were located. Additionally, Mixville is built inside an early 20th century firehouse with huge bay doors and a vaulted ceiling, making the venue actually feel like something from the early 20th century. The draw is older and more professional-looking than the usual Silver Lake hipsters and their entourages, but the bar still manages to exude an artistic coolness. Along with the more mature crowd are higher drink prices than you will find in the average Silver Lake dive, but the appetizers here are great—especially the tarragon-blue cheese fries and pecan-crusted brie. Even better, they are only $5.00 if you come in during the 5-7pm happy hour.
