R & R -

R&R is as much a rock club as a Meatpacking hipster magnet. The space, a former meat cooler, seems inherently divey but charmingly quirky. The owner snazzed it up with banquettes, vinyl furniture, and funky lighting. Does it work? Your guess is as good as mine. What Rare has going for it is an interesting history, a celeb-studded reputation, and worthy rock acts. The good news is that its borderline identity crisis means that both L-train rockers and models will feel at home; that is, if your home has a velvet rope outside your front door. Thursday through Saturday is the R&R (“Rock and Rare”) party, where the DJs get heads banging well before midnight, and metal videos are the perfect eye candy. So put on your lipstick/Metallica t-shirt and head to the west side.
