Mantra - One of the hallmarks of post-modernism is to re-purpose an older structure (like a church) for a new, preferably decadent, use (like a drug-addled club). The people at Mantra have gone for post-modern thrills (by taking over an old bank) in their restaurant/lounge but thankfully the decadence begins and ends with the food. Chef Thomas John draws inspiration from his native India as well as French and local traditions.
After the food has been eaten and the cocktails drank, the turntables come out and the upstairs becomes OmBar, which promises the “Ultra Lounge Experience.” The drinks are pricey, and so is the crowd as they lounge in pomo elegance and flirt and dance the night away.
