No one could imagine what I was planning by having a red, white, and blue barbeque on the 3rd of July during the day.  The invitation read 4:30PM to 8:30PM, to the disbelief of everyone. There are many people who have had the pleasure of partying at the Castle at 4:30PM, but they were still up from the night before. So what was I planning? If it was a Sir Ivan party something very different would have to be taking place.

Well, for starters it wasn’t my party, therefore I couldn’t invite any of my friends, even those I’ve known for years. So, who was invited? Only friends of Oren and Alon, the Alexander twins from North Miami-Beach (Bal Harbor to be exact). Yes, I gave them my Castle and let them invite 200 of THEIR friends to the best daytime party of their lives. A red, white, and blue dinner feast for 200 red, white, and blue cocktails for 200 red, white, and blue beach balls in the pool, and 200 mega sparklers to create a firework–like explosions while everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to them. Even those who correctly RSVP’d were thrown back out of the party, until they changed into something red, white, and blue.

It didn’t matter who you were, if you didn’t RSVP properly and you didn’t wear red, white, and blue, you didn’t get in…period!

Why did I go overboard for the Alexander twins? Because, they’re fun-loving guys from a nice charitable family and they, like their host, have an insatiable appetite for young, gorgeous, sexy women. Need I say more?

What a yummy weekend in the Hamptons. After smoking some wonderful magic tobacco, my friends and I all went to the beautiful Loeb Estate right on the ocean in South Hampton for an event to benefit Phoenix House, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. Of course, being stoned made it even more ironic and fun. The hors d'oeuvres being handed out were plentiful and unbelievably delicious. Especially good were the mini-lobster roll sandwiches.

However, a second party beckoned, this time a sushi party with a house music DJ playing around a pool in a beautiful woodsy area. The sushi was by far the best anyone had ever eaten. Exotic dishes, like strawberry sushi, kiwi sushi, and mango sushi stood out from the rest, although even traditional rolls, like spicy tuna, were spectacular. When I asked the Chinese owner of the catering company how she could beat the Japanese at their own game she simply replied, “My husband’s a fisherman.” Made sense to me. I ate so much of it I was lucky no one from Phoenix House had followed me there. They might have thrown me unwillingly in a van, intervention–style, to face my gourmet food addiction at their famous addiction facility. You can’t be too careful these days. Big Brother is watching me.

Sorry there was no blog last week party animals, but I just came back from Ibiza – no explanation necessary.

Since, I hadn’t been in Ibiza for six years, I was dying to see all the things that had changed. I heard it had become more commercial and therefore I was afraid it had gone down hill. After all, with two red Pacha cherries stamped on everything you can imagine, “F**K Me I’m Famous” boutiques all over the place, and every beach club sponsored by Christian Audigier, Moet Chandon, or Roberto Cavalli - I couldn’t be too sure. 

However, to my delight Ibiza’s still the best place to party in the world. The best DJs, the best nightclubs, the best beaches, the best restaurants, and the coolest people still keep it at #1. I was completely blown away by two new additions. The Gran Hotel, the first 5-star hotel by the port in Ibiza (the town), is so beautiful it makes you feel like you’re staying in the The Museum of Modern Art. The other is the first hotel in the world designed to create a huge indoor/outdoor dance club experience. It’s called The Ushuaia Hotel on Playa de’n Bossa, where every guest has their own speakers near their beach chair and are made to feel like a superstar DJ.

Under 30, I would go for the Ushuaia, with non-stop music day and night. Over 30 you might prefer the Gran, where you can actually chill by the pool. Both are winners and both must be experienced. I want to go back!

Before I left for Ibiza I got to experience a different kind of party that I usually attend in the Hamptons – a family barbeque with just a few close friends. But, because I am more of a Madman than a family man, it was not my family and close friends, rather my dear friends Jeff and Mei Sze Greene, that threw the afternoon feast on their new Hamptons grounds. Because it is so many acres of beachfront property they may just start calling it Greene-Hampton.

With 3000 feet of waterfront on the bay, one could easily enjoy every water sport including jet skiing, water skiing, swimming, and fishing. It really has every activity a summer camp for kids has. Boy, do their kids have a lot of room to play. Their private lagoon even has it’s own swan family. The animals were so beautiful and the scenery so romantic, I almost thought about settling down and enjoying the peace and quiet of nature. I said almost. Remember who’s blogging people.

The Herzog & de Meuron designed parking garage on Lincoln Road in South Beach is an architecturally brilliant multi-use masterpiece. It is so high-tech that it looks more like a modern art sculpture than “garage,” nonetheless, it does hold hundreds of cars, plus a row of exclusive boutiques, restaurants, and shops on the ground floor. It also hosts an unexpectedly placed all-glass store on the 7th floor of the garage, a huge party space with plenty of room to drink and dance and a gorgeous residential penthouse for the two geniuses who came up with the idea and own the place. It’s one of a kind, unless someone out there knows someone who lives in a penthouse that’s literally on top of a parking garage and I just don’t know about it.

Therefore, it was quite clever for designer Lei Marco to invite 200 of the most fashionable people in South Beach for a cocktail party and runway show on top of the most unique parking garage in the world. One normally doesn’t find the most beautiful models in the world strutting the runway in high-end Italian designer eveningwear in this environment.

It was so cool, that for a moment I forgot how hot it actually is in South Beach this time of year. The results are in, in the “coolest” race this year between South Beach, NY, LA, and Vegas…it’s South Beach by an icy nose!
