Festival organizer Larry Tee is one of the most influential tastemakers in dance music. The Dance Music Invasion is an organic evolution of his other influential festivals in New York City, including the Electroclash Festivals 2001-2002 and the Outsider Festivals he hosted in NYC and London 2003 – 2006. Having worked with talents as diverse as the Scissor Sisters, 2 Many DJs, Felix Da Housecat, Trentemoller, Peaches, Junior Vasquez, Tiefscharz, Tommie Sunshine, and DJ James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, his ability to bring diverse musical tastes together is unparalleled in NYC.

Every major city in the world has an Electronic Music or Dance music festival with the exception of New York City until now. This year's Dance Music Invasion 2007, a debut event in New York City, is held at 10 clubs throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn and features 30 different artists.” Tee boasts, “this is only the beginning!”

LAYO & BUSHWACKA! ‘RIO: GU 33’

Layo & Bushwacka’s inaugural mix for Global Underground gives a lesson in proper dance classics and dark electronica! Release date set for US Release October 23rd, 2007!

New York, NY (September 14th, 2007) Layo Paskin & Matthew 'Bushwacka!' Benjamin’s love affair with music began as teenagers at the dawn of the acid house era. It has led both of them on a journey through techno, breakbeat, electro, dub, electronica, and any other pigeonhole in its wake. They have emerged almost two decades later with a sound that fuses their influences and solidifies their position at the anterior of the genre. It is that same outlaw spirit of eclecticism that still forms their mad five hour DJ sets, whether it is at their spiritual home The End Club in London, a beach in Brazil (the inspiration for this album), or at a super club in Ibiza. It is this same passion that turned the limited edition 12” ‘Untitled’ into the global anthem, becoming 'Love Story', crashing onto the music charts worldwide in 2003, including the UK Top 10. .

With this eclectic sound it is only fitting that GU 33 migrates to Rio de Janeiro. It is famous for its spectacular natural setting, its Carnival celebrations, samba and other music, hotel-lined tourist beaches, such as Copacabana and Ipanema, paved with decorated black and cream swirl pattern mosaics. Some of the most famous local landmarks in addition to the beaches include the giant statue of Jesus, known as Christ the Redeemer ('Cristo Redentor') atop Corcovado mountain, which has recently been named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World; Sugarloaf mountain (Pão de Açúcar) with its cable car; the Sambódromo, a giant permanent parade stand used during Carnival; and Maracanã stadium, one of the world's largest football stadiums. Rio also boasts the world's largest forest inside an urban area, called Floresta da Tijuca, or 'Tijuca Forest'. Rio is a place that knows all about a mixture of the tradition and development.

To celebrate this dynamic, Layo & Bushwacka! offer up a mix of the old and the new. CD 1 is a treasure trove of classic, lost gems, and defining moments in the evolution of house and techno. Ellis D rubs shoulders with Marshall Jefferson via Daou, Lil Louis, DJ Pierre, Francois K, and Eddie Flashin’ Fowlkes are all present, as are the likes of Cajmere, Detroit’s Kenny Larkin (with a rare Hawtin mix of ‘We Shall Overcome’). If you want to know how we came to the music you hear today, then this is no better introduction.
