The Fauxcialite: The Right Outerwear for Your Plans

Every woman has her own fashion style when it comes to going out at night. But if your attire is inspired by Nicki Minaj, and you’ve got a date at the Four Seasons, you might need to stray (for a night) from your go-to wardrobe choices. First impressions are important, so choosing the right outerwear for where you’re going is essential.

Pea Coat: This is such a classic choice, you can wear it almost anywhere. But pea coats and trenches are especially good when you’re going to a nicer place, and you’re dressed up a bit. J.Crew has a great option called the Perennial pea coat for $245. It comes in seven different colors, but if you don’t own many dressy coats, stick with a neutral like black or dark grey. Target has a less-expensive Merona wool pea coat in 11 colors for $49.99.

Leather Jacket:
Whether faux or real, leather jackets are perfect when you’re going to an edgier venue. This downtown staple is great for somewhere that’s not too fancy but not as casual as a sports bar. TopShop has an amazing black zippered, paneled biker jacket for $96.

Faux-Fur: It’s tough to rock a good faux-fur jacket without looking like Margot Tenenbaum on Halloween. But if you can pull it off, faux fur can either be dressed up or down, depending where your night takes you. Pair it with a chic miniskirt to make it look high-end, or wear it with dark jeans, booties and a cute top for a casual place. Guess has their Premier faux-fur coat for $178 in both black and tan. But Forever 21 has a cheaper jacket in light brown for only $49.99.
