How to Take Your Emmy Watch-Party to the Next Level

The 63rd primetime Emmy Awards, which honors the best in television arts, is officially happening this Sunday, September 18th, which means that it’s time to start thinking about how and where you’ll be spending the star-studded evening. Whether you’ll be throwing a Hollywood glam-inspired bash with friends or hosting a cozy get-together, celebratory drinks are a must-have. Fortunately, we have six scrumptious concoctions to compliment your night. Each of the following creations pays homage to some of this year’s most talked about shows. No matter which series gets your vote, these cocktails are guaranteed winners for your guests.

Mildred’s Desire
The five-part, three-week HBO mini-series, “Mildred Pierce,” starring Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet must be good…it’s pulling in 21 nominations! We have no doubt that this television gem will win something, so kick off the festivities early with a classic cocktail that’s made with one of the world’s most awarded-rums

Mildred’s Desire Cocktail Recipe

?Ingredients
2 oz. Flor de Cana 18 Year Old Centenario Rum
½ oz. Benedictine
2 Dashes orange bitters

Preparation
Stir and strain all ingredients in an A/P coupe.

Prohibition Sazerac
Prohibition laws may have been a Debbie Downer to social drinkers during the Roaring ‘20s, but that doesn’t mean flappers and gangsters weren’t getting their booze on at speakeasies. “Boardwalk Empire” gives audiences a glimpse of 1920 Atlantic City where Nucky Thompson is always holding a stiff drink to take the edge off from all the scandal and corruption taking place. The Prohibition Sazerac may look virginal, but it packs a mighty punch with cognac and absinthe. Thankfully, you won’t need to sneak in some hooch to make this number.

Prohibition Sazerac Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients

2 oz. Camus VSOP Cognac
1 White sugar cube
3-4 Dashes of Peychaud’s Bitters
¼ oz. Lucid Absinthe
1 Lemon peel or twist

Preparation
Stir and serve neat. Place white sugar cube in a chilled mixing glass and add bitters to saturate. Gently muddle. Add cognac and stir with ice. Strain into a whiskey or rocks glass with an absinthe rinse. Spray the glass with a lemon peel or twist.

The Iron Throne
Noted as one of the most highly anticipated shows of 2011, “Game of Thrones” delivers something for everyone: magic, violence, and dramatic power struggles. Therefore, it only makes sense to serve an elixir that’s just as mysterious and enchanting. Escape to another world with The Iron Throne, a dangerously delicious cocktail that’s made with absinthe and champagne. It’s a cocktail that’s only for the elite, so hold court at your Emmy party and drink like a royal.

The Iron Throne Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients

1 oz. Lucid Absinthe
Champagne

Preparation
Pour absinthe into a champagne coupe or flute. Add iced champagne until it attains the proper opalescence.

Russian Therapy
In true Liz Lemon style, this one is for all the lazy drinkers in the house. There’s no need to blend or mix like a pro to create the perfect “30 Rock”- inspired Russian Therapy. It’s made with Russia’s number one vodka, so even Liz could pull this one off. And if you rather party than whip up cocktails all night, the Russian Therapy is exactly what every bartender should give to their patrons.

Russian Therapy Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients

1.5 oz. Russian Standard Vodka
1 Lime wedge
5 oz. Regatta Ginger Beer

Preparation
Pour vodka in a cocktail mug. Squeeze a wedge of lime. Top with ginger beer.

Holly’s Habanero Daiquri
Due to its high energy choreography and campy style, Fox’s “Glee” continues to win fans throughout the country. However, Gwyneth Paltrow’s surprising nomination for “Guest Actress in a Comedy” for her role as Holly Holiday deserves a toast. The Holly’s Habanero Daiquiri embodies her spunk and sweetness. Plus, you won’t be able to get enough of it.

Holly’s Habanero Daiquri Recipe

Ingredients

1.5 oz. Flor de Cana 7 Year Rum
0.5 oz. Lime juice
0.5 oz. Simple syrup
Muddled poblano peppers
1 Jalapeno pepper

Preparation
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Strain into a short rocks glass over ice. Garnish with a poblano and jalapeno pepper.
