The “True Blood” finale is this Sunday, September 11th…so what
will you be drinking?
In celebration of the hit TV series, kitchen brand icon Betty Crocker is unveiling a new collection of
fun recipes to enjoy while watching your favorite show. With fall TV season upon us (because everyone needs a break from the clubs now and then), Betty Crocker has created Fan Fare, which provides users plenty of ideas on creating
after-hours grub, including beloved cocktails.

If you can’t get enough of sinking your teeth into the popular vampire series, consider the thirst quenching Blood-Red Sangria cocktail to complete a perfect “True Blood” viewing party. Unlike the traditional recipe, Betty Crocker’s revamped version is a citrusy martini featuring a striking layered appearance from drops of
sangria-inspired simple syrup made from red wine. An “impaled” cherry adds the perfect finishing touch to this delicious “True Blood”- inspired drink. The result is a luscious, sweet, lightly spicy elixir that’s just too bloody good to share…yes, we said it.
Best of all, the Blood-Red Sangria could still be savored into October. After all, everyone loves a
treat on Halloween.
Betty Crocker’s Blood-Red Sangria Cocktail Recipe
Sangria Simple Syrup Ingredients
1 cup Sugar
1 cup Red wine, such as Merlot or Zinfandel
1 cup Dark sweet cherries, stemmed, pitted, and halved
1 stick Cinnamon
Strips of orange peel
Sangria Martini Cocktail Ingredients
3 Tbsp. Citrus vodka
2 Tbsp. Clear orange-flavored liqueur
2 Tbsp. Chilled sangria simple syrup (see above)
1 Dark sweet cherry on a cocktail pick
Preparation
To make simple syrup, in 1 1/2-quart saucepan, mix sangria simple syrup ingredients. Heat to boiling over medium heat. Simmer for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool for 30 minutes. Strain mixture through fine mesh strainer. Discard solids. Cover and chilled syrup until ready to use. To make a cocktail, fill the cocktail shaker with ice. Add vodka and orange liqueur to the cocktail shaker. Cover, shake, and strain into a martini glass. Drizzle sangria syrup into the cocktail and garnish with a cherry.
