Best Fragrances for a Night Out

Everyone fusses over what to wear for a night out and the stress of getting passed those pesky velvet ropes can be daunting, but nothing makes a bold, confident statement like your signature scent. The right cologne or perfume can draw all eyes on you and, more importantly, make you inviting enough to enter any ultra posh club. However, if you’re daring enough to wear a migraine-inducing fragrance that gives grandma some competition, well, let’s just say you’re not going to be the doorman's BFF anytime soon. Fragrance trends are constantly changing with the season, but fortunately, some classics never go out of style. Here are some of the top sought-after perfumes and colognes that will make you become a part of the elite-or at least smell like them.

For the Ladies

Bittersweet

Don’t be fooled by this fragrance’s dark façade. When perfumer Margot Elena revealed her Tokyo Milk Dark line earlier this year, she was hoping to lure night owls with her sinfully seductive creations-and she succeeded. One perfume that stands out from the pack is Bittersweet, a yummy blend of cake flour, dark cocoa, and osmanthus, a delicate pearl white flower from Japan. At first glance, it may appear too sickly sweet, but the warm chocolaty aroma is actually light and airy without being overly cloying. It lasts for hours and it’s certain to peak the curiosity of anyone you desire just for a whiff. After all, who could possibly resist anything so decadent and delicious?

Lola
Fashionistas seeking to make the clubs their personal runway need one must-have accessory: Marc Jacob’s vampy Lola. The breathtaking jewel-hued bottle with a giant flower cap is enough to make women grab this Technicolor masterpiece, but it’s the scent that will win anyone over.  The notorious fashion designer knows exactly what supermodels like to rock at night and that’s exactly what he captures in Lola. Expect juicy grapefruit, golden pear, and creamy vanilla, a known aphrodisiac. You may not look like a cover girl, but you can still smell like one with ease. Just don’t let anyone in on your secret.

Agent Provocateur
When a fragrance is described as “sex in a bottle,” you know shoppers are going to load up on this famous scent. Lingerie line Agent Provocateur signature perfume of the house, simply titled Agent Provocateur, is sensual, provocative, and wildly hypnotic. The combination of blooming gardenia, rose, and sharp magnolia may scream too flowery for some, but it’s actually a warm, luscious blend that’s dangerously seductive. Agent Provocateur is ideal for bombshells ready to own the night and leave the club with a partner or two. Wear this scandalous keeper at your own risk.

Miss Dior Cherie
The charming Miss Dior Cherie has been captivating shoppers since it first debuted in 1947, but after a recent revamp, it continues to rule supreme at night. As expected, Miss Dior Cherie is girly with notes of ripe cherries and strawberries dipped in oozing caramel. However, don’t expect anything sickly sweet. Tangy orange and pineapple balances out the aroma, as well as a powdery jasmine. Some shoppers have described it as “boozy” for its faint resemblance to bubbly champagne, making it all the more fitting for a night out on the town. Best of all, Miss Dior Cherie is one of those beautifully versatile perfumes that can be worn for an upscale or downtown chic event.

And Gents

Acqua di Gio

If there’s one cologne that every man should own, it has to be this classic scent that never fails to make a grand entrance. Inspired by the sun kissed Italian island Pantelleria, couture designer Georgio Armani wanted to capture the breathtaking scents of his favorite vacation spot. Acqua di Gio was first created in 1996 by perfumer Alberto Moriallas and 15 years later, night owls still hail it as “the ultimate panty dropper.” This fragrance features bitter citrus intertwining with a soft ocean breeze, leading to a delicate white musk. Ladies are infamous for stopping gents just to find out what they’re wearing.

CK One
Another Morillas fragrance creation that’s perfect for rocking at night is CK One by Calvin Klein, also known as a ‘90s legend that has yet to go out of style. CK One is for the guy who wants something clean and refreshing to get the ladies talking. A spritz of CK One reveals juicy tropical fruits, such as pineapple and papaya. It quickly transforms into a spicier aroma of nutmeg and bergamot. CK One is a no frills fragrance that’s ideal as a quick pick-me-up for happy hour. Do take note that it’s on the lighter side, so it’s more suited for the younger, sophisticated gent.

Light Blue Pour Homme
Some guys don’t have time to switch colognes in time for a party at night. However, before breaking a sweat on the dance floor, look for a cologne that works for the day, but has the long lasting affect of one that’s specifically made for after hours. Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue Pour Homme is smoky with frankincense and moss, creating that sought after crisp scent that’s not overpowering.  It’s a safe choice for those who don’t want to fuss over what cologne that should be wearing for a special event…or someone.

Polo Sport
Some men prefer colognes that are on the woodsy side because it invokes a masculine feel that can boost one’s confident in any crowded A-list club. Some just want to feel refreshed, as if they stepped out of a shower. If you happen to be one of those guys, then Ralph Lauren’s Polo Sport is for you. This cologne is all about earthy tones, like mint, sea grass, and cedar. Polo Sport is squeaky clean and energizing with a very noticeable lasting power. As the name implies, Polo Sport is ideal for those who are active and just want to feel cool for hours whether on or off the dance floor.
